Exciting and New

This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome first-timer Becky on to the podcast to discuss the 1984 sci fi-y, horror-y flick Dreamscape.  Dennis Quaid is at his all time-hotness and Mrs. Speilberg ain't no slouch either as they invade peoples dreams and beat Inception to the punch by about 25 years.  This movie has a deep old man cast too, that you know we have fun discussing.  After a few weeks of lesser movies, it was nice to have fun again as we creap closer to Halloween  Enjoy the podcast.

Jason, Andy and Dana will discuss a 1986 movie weekly, breaking down all the nonsense there within. The 3 hosts all work together and everyone else around them was getting really annoyed at all the movie talk, so they decided to annoy the world in podcast form.

Check out previous seasons to hear them discuss 1982, 1983, 1984 & 1985 movies, as well as a full season of Love Boat episodes (if that is your thing). Plus one-off specials and a weekly mini "what are we watching" podcast.

This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Stacey back on the podcast to discuss the 1984 Stephen King adapted horror movie Firestarter.  This Drew Barrymore starring vehicle has a stellar cast, but it suffers from some of the more common problems that happen when adapting Stephen King books.  Things that are scary in the book don’t always translate well to the screen.  And we kind of know what we are talking about.  This is our 5th Stepen King movie in the last two years (if you’re a fan, go check out previous King ‘casts).   Some good, some meh, some Children of the Corn.  Firestarter falls in the "meh" category.  But we had a great time discussing this one.  Enjoy the podcast.

This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Mike back on the podcast to discuss the 1984 horror (?) cult classic C.H.U.D.  Yikes.  This is the kind of movie that always seems to be so highly regarded amongst horror nerds, yet there is nothing here.  Decent cast (half the adults from Home Alone are here) and an ok premised, but man, does this movie drag, with no actual C.H.U.D.s showing up until about the 30 minute mark.  And when they do....let's just say, it doesn't compare to some of the make up effects that we have already seen, doing it better, in 1984.  We find out during the corse of this movie that C.H.U.D actaully stands for 2 different things.  Well, I have a thrid one.  Completely Horrid, Unmitigated Disaster.  But enjoy the podcast.

This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Zach back on the podcast, as we discuss the 1984 slasher movie Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter.  In this installment of the Friday the 13th franchise, Jason (Vorhees, not our beloved host) is finally put to rest by the combined might of Corey Feldman and Crispin Hellion Glover, in what is sure to be the final movie in the series (spoiler alert, there are 8 more F13th movies after this one).  This is a high-water mark for the franchise as far as star-powered cast goes and future Seinfeld guest stars for that matter.   It is also a fun romp to boot, if horny teens getting slaughtered by a masked psychopath is your idea of fun.  Based on the scores we all gave it; it seems that is our idea of fun.  Enjoy the podcast.

This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Anthony (calling all the way from Colorado) back on the podcast to discuss the 1984 schlock slasher horror film Splatter University.  This is barely a film.  Apparently, it was only 65 minutes long, so they decided to "pad it out" to feature length, all for our benefit.  There ain't a lot to like in this movie.  Sandwiched in between franchise starters Nightmare and Children of the Corn and franchise ender (the first of many) Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (spoiler for next week) we have this dreck.  Look, there are tons of bad, cheap horror movies out there, and this is one of them.  Why did Anthony pick this movie to come on the podcast?  There are tons of great horror movies this year.  This question and many others will not be answered on this podcast.   Enjoy.
