Exciting and New

In a very special bonus episode of the Exciting & New podcast, Andy and Dana welcome Connor on as they discuss the 2026 sci-fi spectacular Project Hail Mary.  We all came right from the theater to the podcast studio to discuss this gem and basically discuss what we liked and didn't like when compared to the book.  NERD ALERT -- we all read the book, so we dive DEEP.  Do not listen to this if you haven't seen the movie or read the book.  For those of you that have, enjoy the podcast.

Jason, Andy and Dana will discuss a 1986 movie weekly, breaking down all the nonsense there within. The 3 hosts all work together and everyone else around them was getting really annoyed at all the movie talk, so they decided to annoy the world in podcast form.

Check out previous seasons to hear them discuss 1982, 1983, 1984 & 1985 movies, as well as a full season of Love Boat episodes (if that is your thing). Plus one-off specials and a weekly mini "what are we watching" podcast.

This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana discuss the 1986 action movie Cobra.  In this Stallone rage-fest, Marion Cobretti is the cure to the disease the is crime in LA.  An insane gang is killing just about anybody theuy come in contact with, and that means they need to kill Stallone's real life wife (for the next few months), becuase she saw one of the gang members, and that means she must die.  And there is the plot.  Oh, and there's a meat hook.  Wonder who is going to end up on that??  Enjoy the podcast!

This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Jim back on the show as they discuss the 1986 comedy, Back to School.  In this Rodney Dangerfield classic, Sam Kinison, Burt Young and Ned Beatty try to teach two generations of Melons that with enough money, you can be a world class diver   Wait...is that the message?  Maybe Robert Downey Jr, Sally Kellerman and Adrienne Barbeau try to teach them love.  Well, whatever the moral of the story was, it was a really big check.  Enjoy the podcast!

This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Mac and Dan back on the show to discuss the 1986 drama River's Edge.  In this seminal 80s flick, John Wick and George McFly take opposing stands on how to help their friend deal with a problem down by the "river's edge".  Meanwhile, a doll goes missing, sending this small California town into manhunt mode.  Truly a classic of the era, watch what made Gen X so cynical, and enjoy the podcast (by a bunch of Gen Xers).

This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Brady back on the show to discuss the 1986 thriller Manhunter.  In this Michael Mann-directed prequel (but not really) to The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal Lecter (or Lecktor (?) for some reason) is asked by the FBI to help track down a serial killer (RIP to Tom Noonan).  Hannibal should really be charging for all the killers he tracks down  We dive deep into the history of Lecter and the difference between this moive and Red Dragon (the real prequel to Lambs).  Enjoy the podcast!

This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Mac back on the show to discuss the 1986 war drama Platoon.  Before Charlie Sheen was doing all the winning, he shipped off to Vietnam and did a lot less winning.  Based on Oliver Stone's personal experiences, this movie continues the 1980s love affair with Vietnam that lasted well into the 90s.  This movie is highly quotable and highly traumatizing, with an all-star cast that gets wiped out along the way.  Watch this movie, and enjoy the podcast!!
