  • NO. 24 -- FREDDIE SILVERIA | Auctioneer + Motivational Speaker

    Send us Fan Mail

Freddie Silveria today is a successful benefit auctioneer and motivational speaker. Now rewind to his childhood. His life was forever changed when at nine years old his family was hit by a drunk driver. The crash would result in his mom Gina being bedridden for 17 years. That was followed by cancer that eventually took her life a few years ago. Freddie, who was his mom's caregiver learned a lot through his personal experience. And now that personal experience is his strength.

In today's episode of Experience the Buzz, Host Steve Buzzard spends time with Silveria to recount that experience and the impact it had on his life. "I was blown away by his story. It truly explains why Freddie is the amazing individual he is today. You can tell that he carries his mom's spirit with him in everything that he does." Our conversation hits FOUR areas:

    • Segment ONE 💥  kicks off with Freddie's emergence as a motivational speaker and later a benefit auctioneer. Silveria speaks about the impact of going to Auctioneering School in Iowa and even shares the "Betty Botter" chant with the audience. Just in case you were thinking about becoming an auctioneer.
    • Segment TWO 💥 spotlights Freddie's story in his words. Silveria speaks about his journey and his breaking points personally.
    • Segment THREE 💥 is all about the Pandemic Pivot in relation to auctioneering. While motivational speaking took a back seat, Freddie thrived in the virtual auction department. Freddie also speaks about the "Breaking Down the Walls" program.
    • Segment FOUR 💥 puts some finishing touches on auctioneering. Freddie delivers some BIG news regarding his next adventure. And we finish it off with RAPID FIRE!

Here are some of my favorite HIGHLIGHTS  ...
▪️1. His story. Enough said. It's powerful.
▪️2. Still in awe that Freddie has done so well this fast. You can tell that he is motivated as an entrepreneur. I love his spirit.
▪️3. The Three F's (not what you are thinking) - comes your way at the end of the podcast.

Our Connection | I met Freddie in either 2014 or 2015 when I was the auctioneer for the Luxe for Life event. Freddie was there and volunteered to be my spotter during the LIVE AUCTION. We had a great conversation and continued to stay in contact over the years. And when we get together ... we are usually talking about Auctioneering. I now am asking him for advice.

  • NO. 23 -- KEVIN + DAVID SUTHERLAND | Sacramento Golfers

    Send us Fan Mail

Golf has been their life. Kevin and David Sutherland of Sacramento spent a combined 33 years on the PGA Tour. Older brother Kevin has continued his career on the Champions Tour (Golf Tour for those age 50 and older) where he is the top money earner this season at age 56. After leaving the PGA Tour, David has found his second life in golf as a successful coach for the Sacramento State Women's team. He has been there since 2007 and was named Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year in 2017, 2018, and 2019.

In today's episode of Experience the Buzz, Host Steve Buzzard spends time with the Sutherland Brothers discussing the unique game of golf. "The word that kept coming into my mind was UNORTHODOX. When you hear about what players have to do to get on the Tour, it's overwhelming. For Kevin and David, they had  the right mindset because of the way they approached the game. It was and has always been meant to be FUN!" Our conversation hits THREE areas:

    • Segment ONE 💥  opens with Kevin discussing his life on the Champions Tour. The question was brought up, "Who is the better golfer" which triggered a great discussion amongst the brothers. We finish the segment with growing up around the game of golf.
    • Segment TWO 💥 begins with PGA TOUR aspirations. So unorthodox, but refreshing to hear. Both brothers talk about their time on the PGA TOUR and share some great stories. Kevin discusses his first PGA TOUR win in 2002 in which he beat another local golfer Scott McCarron in the WGC Accenture. David gives us a detailed look at playing at the British Open while Kevin describes his three trips to Augusta, Georgia to play in the Masters.
    • Segment THREE 💥 starts with the next generation of golfers that include both of the Sutherland Brother's boys, Keaton (Kevin) and Matthew (David + Andrew). David preaches in this segment. It's great stuff. The brothers talk about the mental game of golf and offer some sound advice. We get details on Kevin's 59 that he shot in 2014 (only golfer on the Champions Tour to do it and ONE of 12 to do it professionally). David reflects on his time at Sac State as the Golf Coach and we finish out with the longest round of Rapid Fire (which included some more great golf stories).

Here are some of my favorite HIGHLIGHTS  ...
▪️1. "I did not go to Fresno State thinking I was going to play on the PGA Tour," - Kevin Sutherland when asked about aspirations to play professionally.
▪️2. It was a brief mention, but between the two brothers, the duo has 11 Hole-In-One's.
▪️3. David's description of the unique quality GOLF has over any other sport.

Our Connection | We became friends when the Sutherland boys attended Buzzardball and participated in both the Summer Camp and Winter League. Keaton Sutherland (Kevin + Mary's son) also attended St. Michael's where I am a teacher and athletic director.

  • NO. 22 -- SCOTT MOAK | Sacramento Kings P.A. Announcer

    Send us Fan Mail

Scott Moak is living out his childhood dream. As a kid, he sat in Section 213 Row E and rooted on his hometown Sacramento Kings. The Sacramento native became the Public Address Announcer for the same franchise in 2002. How did he get there? Passion, a plan, and lots of practice. And now in his 19th season, it is easy to see that the passion hasn't left the building. In fact, he just gets better.

In today's episode of Experience the Buzz, Host Steve Buzzard spends time with Moak talking about how this childhood dream came to fruition. "I can't think of a better story to have where someone who is from Sacramento, grew up watching the Kings, and then getting the opportunity to be the in-house voice for the Kings. So cool and couldn't have happened to a better guy" Our conversation hits THREE areas:

    • Segment ONE 💥  focuses on Moak's childhood that led to the moment. The moment was hearing a teacher that called himself the "Golden Voice" at John F. Kennedy High School. The seed was planted and after a lot of hard work, Moak uncovers for us how he got the Kings P.A. position and what people need to know about being a public address announcer where mistakes don't have a home.
    • Segment TWO 💥 goes back to the KDVS student radio days when Moak was attending UC Davis. Moak then transitions to 2013 when it was thought that Sacramento would lose their beloved Kings. Moak does a great job of comparing Arco Arena (amongst other names) to Golden One Center. Transition to soccer. Moak, who is the Vice President of the team, updates us on the latest news surrounding the team and their quest to become an MLS franchise.
    • Segment THREE 💥 kicks off with life during Covid as an NBA announcer. That includes the night the game between the Kings and New Orleans Pelicans was cancelled to calling games this season inside an empty stadium. Moak unveils his favorite moments as well as gives us insight on his other project where he is the co-host of Studio 40 Live weekdays at Noon. We finish it off with Rapid Fire (newspaper route, Lady Gaga, Ted Lasso).

Here are some of my favorite HIGHLIGHTS  ...
▪️1. The importance of pronunciation when it comes to NBA Player's names.
▪️2. The fact that Scott and I represent half of the number of announcers that the Kings have had in Sacramento (I was the P.A. voice in 1999). Ira C. Smith (2000 + 2001) will live in infamy. Just hearing that name for the first time in a long time brought back some memories.
▪️3. His story about fraternity brother and radio partner Eric Hassletine when describing the  UC Davis vs. Texas A&M-Kingsville Playoff game in 1997. Felt like it was yesterday.

Our Connection | I met Scott when he was a student at UC DAVIS and broadcasted games with Eric Hassletine. We had a couple of classic road trips to Carson-Newman in Tennessee (1996) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (1997).

  • NO. 21 | My Faith Journey ✟

    Send us Fan Mail

In today's episode of Experience the Buzz, I share  my FAITH JOURNEY. It is a podcast I have been wanting to do since the start of ETB in January.  I grew up Catholic and now call myself a Christian. I have had many important people placed in my life. The most important being my wife Kristin. When we were married, I began going to Arcade Church and it was there that Pastor Daniel Henderson changed everything for me. When he spoke, I began to understand what things meant for me spiritually.

I learned that my faith was about a relationship with Jesus. And from there, I gave my life to Christ at 30 years of age. While I thought my Christian walk was going to be perfect, I realized quickly it was the complete opposite. My walk was going to be daily and I was going to fall many times. Through my journey with Him, it has allowed me the following.

    1. Action, not Words
    2. Allows me to SEE people in a different way.
    3. We are ALL broken, we are ALL lost.

My five cornerstones are FAITH, FORGIVENESS, GRACE, LOVE, and KINDNESS
I really hope you enjoy this podcast. I enjoyed doing it.

TRACY MOORE, GINA NAVARRO, and LINDSAY BERSANE. "I am really excited about this episode. I have a great feeling that those listening will appreciate each story and be inspired." Let's meet the THREE guests.

    • Tracy Moore is a licensed Marriage + Family Counselor as well as a Fitness Instructor. Tracy first came across ARBONNE as a customer. A simple referral from a friend. This driven MOM of two boys (Wilson + Malcolm) became a Regional Vice President and even got the White Mercedes!
    • Gina Navarro is a Brand Partner with Savvi Lifestyle Co. Athleisurewear is a $6 Billion dollar industry. By 2026, the projections are estimated to be at $257 Billion. Enough said. Shop or become a Brand Partner.
    • Lindsay Bersane owns and runs a mobile tanning station called Sunshine +  Babes. She has been tanning friends and clients for two years. She is also an influencer through LikeToKnow.It. She's a busy mom with three young kids, but loves the idea of having some time to herself where she can do something that is fun and makes money for the family.

Our Connection | Tracy | Her boys Wilson and Malcolm attended my Buzzardball Summer Camp when they were youngsters at Crocker Riverside Elementary in Sacramento.

Our Connection | Gina | Gina hired me to DJ an event for Gigi's Playhouse a few years ago. Gigi's Playhouse is an amazing nationwide program that focuses on families with children who have Down Syndrome

Our Connection | Lindsay | Nine years ago, I was the DJ for Dale + Lindsay's wedding. I provided the link to their Photo Gallery. It was an incredible day!

  • NO. 19 -- JOE DAVIDSON | Sacramento Bee

    Send us Fan Mail

Joe Davidson is synonymous with high school sports in the Sacramento area. Since 1988 (that's 33 years), Davidson has covered local sports for the Sacramento Bee. He is currently a Senior Writer for the paper and stands as the longest tenured reporter. Today is one of those rare occasions where the man who is always asking the questions gets to be the guest and talk about his work.

In today's episode of Experience the Buzz, Host Steve Buzzard reunites with his co-host of 1240 KSAC's "The Prep Page," a high school show back in the 90's. "Joe is respected by ALL. There isn't a coach, a player, or a player's family that doesn't know Joe." Our conversation hits FOUR areas:

    • Segment ONE  Joe talks about growing up in Half Moon Bay and the start of his interest in wanting to write stories for a local newspaper. That led to his persistence in finding his first newspaper job at the Davis Enterprise.
    • Segment TWO is all about Joe's time at the Sacramento Bee. His move to the Bee was very similar to the Davis Enterprise and as a young writer, he soaked it all in amongst his mentors.  Joe also goes into detail about the difference between print media, and TV/Radio media as well as the relationship between the two.
    • Segment THREE starts with a question. "What is your secret sauce to longevity in your job?" That is followed by an extensive conversation about Joe's transition to becoming a beat writer for the Sacramento Kings for a few years in the early 2000's. It wasn't long until Davidson was returning to the place he loves and knows best ... HIGH SCHOOL!  Davidson also takes on the question about the beating that journalism as a profession has taken over the past few years.
    • Segment FOUR is dedicated to the BEST of the BEST in high school. Players and teams as seen through Davidson's eyes. We finish out with Rapid Fire 💥

Here are some of my favorite HIGHLIGHTS  ...
▪️1. The life lessons Davidson received from his DAD about being a forward thinker and chasing after what you want. That attitude was instrumental in Joe getting jobs with the Davis Enterprise and the Sacramento Bee.
▪️2. If he wasn't a sportswriter, Davidson tells me that he would have liked to have been a teacher. Hands down, though, he LOVES his job!
▪️3. Joe's name recall is OFF THE CHARTS. For a guy that knows so many people, it's pretty amazing the number of names he remembers.

Our Connection | Joe Davidson and I co-hosted a High School Sports show called "The Prep Page." It aired on 1240 KSAC in the early 90's. We also wrote for the Sacramento Bee's "Neighbors" section during the same time.

  • NO. 18 -- RUTHIE BOLTON | 2-Time Gold Medalist 🏀 + Hall of Famer

    Send us Fan Mail

Ruthie Bolton is a powerful woman. She is ready to preach. And that should make sense since her father, the late Reverend Linwood Bolton Sr. was a preacher. Her story is truly like no other that I have heard. This preacher's daughter was one of 20 children in her family, including a twin brother and close to 150 nieces and nephews. In a big family, Ruthie found a way to be a shining star.

Ruthie tells a story about a fence in the backyard of her Mississippi home. Her victory with the fence is what ignited everything that would come next ... Auburn, Olympics, two gold medals, the WNBA, and becoming a woman who survived domestic abuse and is a voice for all athletes and women. It's inspiring!

In today's episode of Experience the Buzz, Host Steve Buzzard is honored to be joined by Ruthie Bolton (who now lives in Mississippi). "Her story is amazing and it's understandable why she is one of the most respected players in women's basketball and is a hero to women worldwide." Our conversation hits FOUR areas:

    • Segment ONE  focuses on Ruthie's childhood in Mississippi. She talks about the emergence of her athleticism and her older sister Mae Ola. Then we get two great stories: The FENCE story and The BUS story. Good stuff.
    • Segment TWO turns to life after Auburn and Ruthie's journey to make the National team. Ruthie shares her experiences playing for Hall of Fame Coach Tara Vanderveer. And then Ruthie just simply preaches about life itself.
    • Segment THREE focuses on the Olympics in 1996 when Ruthie got the assignment to shut down one of Brazil's greatest women basketball players Maria Paula Silva. The story then shifts to Ruthie's arrival in the WNBA, the comparison between the WNBA and international play, winding down her playing career, and her last year with the Monarchs.
    • Segment FOUR starts with Ruthie's Hall of Fame induction in 2011. She then shares how ESPN decided to film a documentary that highlighted her basketball career as well as her battle with domestic abuse. Ruthie finishes off with her current projects.

Here are some of my favorite HIGHLIGHTS  ...
    1. The DAD quotes are off the charts. You have to pay attention because there are so many that were all so instrumental in Ruthie's life.
    2. The FENCE story.
    3. Shutting down Brazil's best player Maria Paula Silva in the gold medal game
    4. The 1996 Olympics story Ruthie shares involving the team and a football field. Goosebumps.

  • NO. 17 -- TOPH + MAX BUZZARD | The Banter Bro's Sports Podcast

    Send us Fan Mail

Part of the goal of this particular podcast was to promote the Banter Bro's Sports Podcast hosted by Toph + Max Buzzard. You figured out quickly that they are indeed my boys. The promoting took place in the beginning and we even had a mini BANTER session at the end, but what I didn't expect was the amazing conversation we had in between. It was absolutely priceless. As a dad, this was truly a gift that I am happy to share with you. Every family can and should have this type of conversation and after listening to it, I decided it should happen more often. This round happens to come to you in the form of a podcast.

In today's episode of Experience the Buzz, Host Steve Buzzard brings in his sons Toph (age 25) and Max (23) to discuss their new podcast adventure as well as life itself in the Buzzard household. "I am just going to say it. This was a proud DAD moment being able to use this platform to have this conversation about important things that have happened in our lives." Our conversation hits FOUR areas:

    • Segment ONE  kicks off with NEWS + NOTES (Peloton and the phrase 'dive into'). Toph and Max give you the skinny on the Banter Bro's Sports Podcast. We discuss the lists of great moments I created for both boys along with making sports an experience, not just another game.
    • Segment TWO focuses on being an entrepreneur in your 20's. What does that look like? And then we get a great breakdown on the educational journeys of both Toph and Max. And as Max stated when getting ready to talk about his education, "Buckle up."
    • Segment THREE is all about FAMILY! Discussions about Papa Dye, Grandma Buzzard, my wife Kristin, and our daughter Rileigh. Good stuff in this segment for sure.
    • Segment FOUR highlights life in Buzzardball (26 years and counting). Toph and Max discuss great memories as campers and coaches. We discuss the beauty behind "Draft Day" and finish off with a BANTER session and FAVORITE sports moments. Two hours later ... Priceless!

Here are some of my favorite HIGHLIGHTS  ...
    1. Loved how Toph + Max spoke about their Papa Dye, Grandma Buzzard, their mom Kristin (my beautiful wife), and their sister Rileigh (my beautiful daughter). 💚💛
    2. The educational journey of my boys. So different, but so perfect for each of them.
    3. Great Banter segment at the end of the show. I think Toph was just trying to stir the pot with his 'trade D'Aaron Fox' antics. Haha! 🦊
    4. It sure didn't feel like two hours. 🕰 So glad that we did this!

  • No. 16 -- STEVE WILLIAMS | Sly Park Basketball School

    Send us Fan Mail

Steve Williams is the GODFATHER of basketball camps in Northern California. This summer will mark his 39th year of running the popular Sly Park Basketball School. Tuesday-Saturday, campers live + breathe basketball from early morning (7 am) into the night. And Williams loves every minute of it. His key to success is the investment he and his staff put into the campers. On top of that, this former boys basketball coach at Grant High School, has endless and infectious energy. Thus his favorite saying ... "I am so STOKED, it's unbelievable."

In today's episode of Experience the Buzz, Host Steve Buzzard has his long-awaited conversation with his basketball mentor. "He is a blueprint for how basketball and other sport camps should be run. I am proud to call him my friend. You won't meet anyone more positive that Coach Williams. Our conversation hits THREE areas:

    • Segment ONE  gets right into it. Steve breaks down the origin of Sly Park Basketball School with his good friend Ken Smith. We find out how Year One looked along with origin of the traditional blue + gold uniforms as well as the Sly Park logo. Steve breaks down his operation as well the loss of his friend that resulted in a partial location change.
    • Segment TWO is all about Sly Park Basketball School. Steve and I talk about life skills through basketball, why Steve's camp succeeds, the evolution of the game over an almost 40-year period, what a week at the camp looks like, and getting back to normal once the pandemic is behind us.
    • Segment THREE allows us a peek into Steve Williams growing up (St. John the Evangelist + Jesuit High School) to his entrance into the teaching and coaching world. That was highlighted by an incredible stint at Grant High School, including working alongside coaching legend Mike Alberghini. We finish off with RAPID FIRE 💥!

Here are some of my favorite HIGHLIGHTS  ...
    1. HARD WORK, TEAMWORK, SPORTSMANSHIP, + RESPECT -- The cornerstone to success when it comes to Sly Park Basketball School
    2. "We teach them how to play, NOT A play. Running an offense takes discipline." -- when asked about one of the reasons Sly Park Basketball Camp differs from other basketball camps.
    3. Steve's story about how he got into the University of San Francisco. Absolutely hilarious.
    4. Steve's favorite singer? Wasn't expecting his answer ... but I LOVED IT!

Our Connection | Steve Williams and I became acquainted during my Winter League Basketball program. Steve would show up with camp flyers. We would chat and catch up on life. My boys Toph and Max attended Sly Park Basketball School and absolutely LOVED the experience. I have a lot of respect for Steve and the incredible work he does.

  • No. 15 -- KELLIE RANDLE | Emptynestmomlife

    Send us Fan Mail

When asked what she wanted to be when she grew up ... "I wanted to be a MOM." That's Kellie Randle, who has embraced being the mother to three wonderful children (all adulting now in their 20's). So after they left for college, it was just her and husband Jeff. Empty nesting is what they like to call it. Kellie is a great connector and full of amazing ideas surrounding mom life, parties, celebrations, and holidays. Slowly, EMPTYNESTMOMLIFE came to life on Instagram and because of the pandemic took off in a most unexpected way. It's simple. People love the content and embrace the great things Kellie has to offer. Now with over 15,000 followers, Kellie has joined others in the Sacramento influencer arena (although Kellie would call herself an 'accidental Instagramer').

In today's interview episode of Experience the Buzz, Host Steve Buzzard spends time with Kellie Randle. "What I see with Kellie is that she gives her all when it comes to her family, her job, and her community. The Randle Family Motto is ALL IN. I see why." Our conversation hits THREE areas:

    • Segment ONE  introduces us to Kellie. You get to find out how the two of us are connected. Kellie breaks down the origin of EMPTYNESTMOMLIFE, talks about having her kids home during the pandemic, her pandemic takeaways, and the support she received regarding her new adventure on social media.
    • Segment TWO Kellie talks about growing up and how she became the 'idea queen.' Kellie discusses her husband Jeff and her involvement with her kids while they were away at college (Vanderbilt + Notre Dame). We finish off with getting a glimpse into three Randle traditions: GIRLFRIEND GETAWAY, THE HOLIDAY BALL, and THE MEMORY WALL.
    • Segment THREE is about Sacramento, philanthropy work, Randle Communications (which she is the co-founder with husband Jeff), college graduation during the pandemic, and her event she held for other Sacramento influencers. We finish off with RAPID FIRE and final thoughts.

Here are some of my favorite HIGHLIGHTS  ...
    1. ALL IN -- That's the Randle Family Motto. If you know this family, it makes perfect sense.
    2. "I wanted to be a MOM." -- when asked what she wanted to be when she grew up.
    3. "She (Kellie) tells you all the things you need to know, that you never knew you needed to know." -- how Kellie was described by KCRA Channel 3's Deirdre Fitzpatrick.
    4. Biggest Pandemic Takeaway was the 'gift of time' with her kids.

Our Connection | I was the DJ for many RANDLE celebrations. They are definitely a TOP THREE family in terms of the number of parties hosted where I was the DJ. It was fun to be a small part of the Randle family!
