  • No. 14 -- KENYA FRANKLIN | Juiced By Kenya

    Send us Fan Mail

Imagine trying to start your own business during a pandemic. That is exactly what Kenya Franklin did with Juiced By Kenya. This single mom from Sacramento put her knowledge of plant-based foods combined with her love for the kitchen into her home-based business. She has delivered a knockout punch with six pressed juices with great names. It started with flavor names like OGC and Greens n Things. There's Beet and Kenya Cleanse along with her newest creations called Bliss and Goodness. This is a story you need to hear.

In today's interview episode of Experience the Buzz, Host Steve Buzzard spends time with Kenya Franklin (first in-person interview in the home studio). "Yes. It's juice that she is offering, but it's no secret that Kenya is the branding behind such a great product. This is just the start of great things for Kenya." Our conversation hits THREE areas:

    • Segment ONE  brings Kenya's upbringing in Sacramento. She discusses her life as a child into her high school days. Kenya addresses being an entrepreneur, a single mom, and talks about her son's father. Kenya had some great insight into what she noticed with baby food for her son.
    • Segment TWO unveils the power of the newest app ... Clubhouse. Clubhouse was big for Kenya in seeing business growth. This segment is packed with knowledge about the education of nutrition and juicing through the eyes of Kenya. Kenya talks about starting Juiced during the pandemic last April. And we finish off with a Taste Test of all SIX Juiced flavors.
    • Segment THREE is about how Kenya treats social media and getting the word out about her business. We get some insight into the future of Juiced By Kenya. Kenya talks about the origin of her logo and some amazing partnerships she has developed. And of course, we finish it off with Rapid Fire, some love for her son, and a final message from Kenya.

Here are some of my favorite HIGHLIGHTS  ...
    1. The fact that Kenya started Juiced By Kenya during the Covid-19 Pandemic is impressive. Kenya said yes, while many people would have said no.
    2. I loved listening to Kenya dropping knowledge to basic questions I had in regards to nutrition and juicing. Kenya also unveils the top three vegetables and top fruit that we can eat.
    3. "It's about MIND, BODY, and SOUL. It's made with LOVE." -- Kenya talking about her juices. I believe her 100 percent.
    4. It was great doing this interview in person. It brought an extra dose of energy. Kenya is doing great things.

  • No. 13 -- AMANDA BOULDIN | Influencer

    Send us Fan Mail

I love what Amanda Bouldin brings to the table. This Sacramento mom of three beautiful girls who is happily married didn't design what I am going to tell you next. After leaving Stitch Fix, a friend recommended going onto Instagram and having fun! So while having fun on Instagram and Tik Tok shortly thereafter ... something happened. It was her 10th post on Tik Tok. Simple mom rant following the Golden Globes that featured Michelle Williams. Wait for it ... 6.8 million views (as of today)! That launched what we know today as After Hours with Amanda into the stratosphere. 1.3 million followers on Tik Tok. 87,400 followers on Instagram. And her own podcast.

In today's interview episode of Experience the Buzz, Host Steve Buzzard spends time with Amanda Bouldin. "I knew this was going to be an easy conversation. Just ask the question and let Amanda go. Her positivity flows in such a natural way. That fires me up!" Our conversation hits FOUR areas:

    • Segment ONE  starts with a question, "What do you call yourself?" Amanda talks about those early days on Tik Tok and Instagram and how After Hours with Amanda grew into what it is today. She also discusses making After Hours a business and her partnership with brands.
    • Segment TWO is all about FAMILY.  Amanda talks about growing up, her relationship with her husband Blake (they have known each other since the 2nd Grade), the loss of her mom and brother, and how the impact of those big events shaped her parenting and outlook on life moving forward.
    • Segment THREE opens up with the positivity behind social media. Amanda then discusses her process, which actually equals no process. All authentic. No refilming. Permission to post from Blake and the girls. She talks about her newest adventure ... Podcasting and finishes out with describing the power behind different platforms.
    • Segment FOUR sheds light on Pandemic Life, including her biggest takeaways almost a year afterwards. Amanda finishes on parenting, her three girls, what she is the most proudest of through this journey, and the Clubhouse app. Rapid Fire puts a bow on this amazing conversation.

Here are some of my favorite HIGHLIGHTS  ...
    1. Amanda will accept the title, but is uncomfortable with "Influencer." She prefers "Community Encourager."
    2. About being an Open Book. "I think it is important to start with empathy." "I usually don't get mad anymore.""I don't need everyone to like me." Three great quotes straight from Amanda.
    3. The Love Story with Blake is incredible. As you hear Amanda speak about Blake, you can see where he played a major role in Amanda's life at very important times in her life.
    4. The nuggets of gold Amanda delivers when it comes to Pandemic Takeaways. So good.

  • No. 12 -- MAREN CONRAD | Sacramento Artist + Muralist

    Send us Fan Mail

I am just going to say it ... Maren Conrad is a BADASS artist and muralist! Her work is all over Sacramento. This fifth generation Californian is an open book when it comes to her story and her art. Her style is not defined by how a piece of art or mural looks. It has everything to do with the story she is trying to tell. The way Maren speaks about what is behind her work should and will inspire you. I am inspired just writing this. All the more reason to check out what she is all about.

In today's interview episode of Experience the Buzz, Host Steve Buzzard spends time with Maren Conrad. "I learned so much in this episode because of Maren Conrad. I truly saw art one way and Maren inspired me to look at things in a much different manner. Her work is amazing. I can't wait to take the tour and see every piece in person." Our conversation hits FOUR areas:

    • Segment ONE  focuses on Maren's journey through art, being a woman entrepreneur, defining her style, growing up in Sacramento, and an initial dive into two of her recent pieces of work honoring the women of the 19th Amendment and the Transcontinental Railroad.
    • Segment TWO focuses on Maren's opportunity to do a Ted Talk. Through that Ted Talk, Maren speaks openly about losing her husband Dennis and the effect that had on her art going forward. Maren talks about her art during college, after college, and after the tragedy of Dennis' passing. Then we get insight to the Dandelion Story, when the Genius Arrives,  and her first mural which is called "Prosperity Through Perseverance" arriving in 2016 thanks to Wide Open Walls. So much good stuff to unpack.
    • Segment THREE Maren describes to me (an art novice) the process of being commissioned to do a mural. Great stories behind Lady Bird, incorporating other art forms during her work, and one of my favorite pieces ... Mr. T on C Street.
    • Segment FOUR,  Maren speaks about her latest piece in honor of Ruth Bader Ginsburg ("Seeds of Change"), her Urban Roots Piece (Converse Shoes), and the Peacock at DOCO. Rapid Fire and Great Finishing Thoughts finish out this Talking Story.

Here are some of my favorite HIGHLIGHTS  ...
    1. Every piece that Maren talks about has a story. You get an idea of how much work and preparation is put in before any stroke of the brush ever happens.
    2. I am in awe of Maren's ability to take on HUGE projects like her first BIG mural "Prosperity Through Perseverance" or the "Transcontinental Railroad"
    3. Maren brought up some very important facts including art seen in a gallery (85% male, 15% female) and sold (+70% male). If there was ever a voice for Women in Art, Maren is leading the charge.
    4. When talking about art after losing her husband, Maren said, "We look for the beauty in life. And if we can't find it, we make it."

  • No. 11 -- MONICA DINON | Bueno Sport + Swim

    Send us Fan Mail

Monica Dinon (pronounced Dee-Non) is the blueprint for entrepreneurial success. Monica understands what "THE GRIND" is all about when it comes to working hard to get what you want. Bueno Sport + Swim is a result of Monica's hard work. From the countless jobs to the inspiration for Bueno to the pop-up events at local gyms and in her own home, Monica has made her brand known.

In today's interview episode of Experience the Buzz, Host Steve Buzzard speaks with Monica Dinon. "You can feel the energy when she speaks. It's inspirational and I encourage everyone listening to take notes because Monica delivers some great information for all aspiring entrepreneurs." Our conversation hits FOUR areas:

    • Segment ONE is a full description of ALL the countless jobs that Monica did before she arrived at running her own business. Monica also talks about the benefits of being an entrepreneur and the idea of traveling and bringing ideas back to Sacramento.
    • Segment TWO highlights Bueno Sport + Swim. The origin. The challenges. The start of it all from purchasing a trailer to doing pop-up events. And then finally the arrival of taking Bueno Sport + Swim into a brick and mortar building.
    • Segment THREE Monica talks about the success behind her brand's Instagram account. She lets us in on the Bueno Experience, having employees for the first time, her brand going beyond Sacramento, and the origin of the Bueno Logo.
    • Segment FOUR, identifies being a small business owner during the COVID pandemic, her pivot to doing personal deliveries (Genius!), and the future of Bueno Sport + Swim.

Here are some of my favorite HIGHLIGHTS  ...
    1. I was impressed most by the fact that Monica never took out any loans. She used all of her own money toward her business. That's pretty awesome!
    2. I am admittedly obsessed with the origin of a brand idea or the logo. You will absolutely love Monica's story about how Bueno came to be.
    3. Donuts, Bacon, and Champagne were the keys to success to her home pop-up events.
    4. Huge credit to husband Brandon, who is Monica's biggest cheerleader, and encouraged her at key moments of the Bueno journey!
