Frank Cotton definitely got more than he bargained for in his endless quest for thrills. At least his brother Larry's cheating wife Julia is there to comfort him when he escapes from the hellish prison that the leather clad creatures known as Cenobites took him to :)
Join us as we discuss this 80s supernatural family drama, from the mind of none other than Clive Barker. If you're looking for some company, we discuss some dubious, yet "simple," methods of summoning different creatures and spirits into your own life in our widely acclaimed Academic Segment. Finally, we talk about who the real villains of this film are ... and it's not who you might think.
You know, sometimes you gotta change your look. As fashion trends come and go, we all have to adapt. We can't dress like people did in the 80s anymore without getting some strange looks (plus, those Spandex look uncomfortable AF). As such, our friendly neighborhood Chupacabras has somehow morphed from his initial alien-like appearance (as seen in our awesome logo :) ) to something that looks more dog-like (WTF?!).
We are happy to announce that we collaborated with Charlie and Mike from the great Arcane Carolinas podcast for this one! They were very gracious in letting us speak to them about this awesome cryptid, so make sure you go and check out their show! For our world renowned Academic Segment, we talk about the Xoloitzcuintle dog breed, which is the one that most resembles the current appearance of our friend. And, this being an episode on an actual legend, our host Chuy created a cool jam to go along with it :D
Watching movies from other countries is a good way to learn about the way people from other cultures do things :) You can learn about their cooking, their language, how they summon demons ...
In yet another tale of messing around with things you don't quite understand (kinda like us when we decided to start a podcast), we look into what happens to Veronica when she decides to contact the spirit of her dead father by using a Ouija board. For our Academic Segment, we talk about the case of Estefania, which served as the inspiration for the story we see in this film from Spain.
We'd like to thank everyone that has been listening to our episodes and who have been supportive of our endeavor! It's been a very interesting couple of seasons, and we can't wait to share the new content for Season 3! :D
Most of us could probably relate to Thomasin, the main character in this film. She wants to experience life on her own terms and not feel stifled by her parents, her religion, or her society. The question would be, how much would we be willing to give up to get that?
Join us as we talk about witchcraft as it was outlined by the British Parliament (!), as well as the infamous Salem Witch Trials in our widely acclaimed Academic Segment. For our movie critique, we are joined by our special guest Bridget Bardot (AKA Girl Behind The Counter), who helps us dissect some of the cinematic elements in this film.
How far would you go to obtain something that you've looked for practically your whole life? Visit a remote location all the way across the world? Maybe even visit Hell itself? That is the question that the main characters in this movie seek to answer as they explore a ghastly location looking for a legendary relic.
Join us as we talk about the different elements of this suspenseful film. For our world renowned Academic Segment, we discuss the historical background of the Paris Catacombs (where most of the movie takes place) and of the mysterious Holy Grail of alchemy, The Philosopher's Stone.
Picture yourself in a luxury cruise ship with all the amenities. Good food, great music, excellent service ... everything seems like a dream. Suddenly, you find yourself in the middle of what appears to be a freak accident, and everyone around you is dead.
After what may be one of the most creative and awesome first scenes to have ever been shot in movie history, the story becomes one of salvage, as the not-at all-conspicuously named Jack Ferriman convinces a crew to help him get on board in search of possible treasures ...
Join us as we talk about and critique this film from the early 2000s. For the internationally lauded Academic Segment, we cover the story and background behind one of the most famous ghost ships in history, The Flying Dutchman.
Imagine you're trying to walk to your home in rural Mexico one night, when suddenly, a terrifying looking man appears before you on horseback and offers you some gold coins ... would you take them without asking any questions?
While some people say this mysterious rider is evil, others say he will escort you home and make sure you're safe, so he' kind of a cool dude ... provided you don't take his gold :P
Join us as we discuss the possible origins of this Mexican specter. We also discuss Charro culture and history in our widely acclaimed Academic Segment. As a special treat, Chuy made a mariachi song to go along with the mood for this episode :D
Everything has an opposite, and Santa Claus isn't the exception.
Krampus is the evil counterpart to the jolly figure of Santa, and he's definitely not here to mess around. He's all about handing out harsh punishments to the ones who've been naughty, and he ain't afraid to bust out some whips and chains to get his point across.
Then again, some of you wouldn't really consider that a punishment ;)
Join us as we talk about the film from 2015 that was based on this Austro/German legend. Also, stick around for our much talked about Academic Segment, in which we go over his historical origins.
Keep them away from bright lights.
Keep them away from water.
Don't let them eat after midnight.
Well, if it weren't for that last one, I'm sure many of us could call ourselves a Mogwai :P
Join us on the first installment of our Christmas Double Feature as we talk about this timeless horror/comedy classic from the 80s. We also looked into the origins of Gremlins in the real world as a possible supernatural occurrence in the lives of British RAF pilots during the 1930s-40s.
Well, it certainly isn't a friendly voice.
In what's become somewhat of a trend for us lately, we discuss another woods dweller in this episode, and this is one that allegedly roams the forests of certain parts the of the northern US and Canada. Join us as we converse about the possible origins and habits of the Wendigo and cover the different ways in which this creature can affect a person in our (in)famous Academic Segment. As an added bonus, Chuy has decided to create yet another rocking jam to represent the menacing qualities of this beast.
