Four guys decide to go hiking in the Swedish countryside as a way to celebrate the memory of a recently deceased friend. After one of them sprains his ankle, they decide to find a quicker way back to civilization through a shortcut in the forest. Instead of finding a way out, they'll be dragged into a nightmare where their friendship will be tested to its limits.
Join us as we also try our hand at giving a more concise film critique and discuss certain aspects of Norse mythology that were the inspiration for the villainous creature in this film.
Imagine you're trying to live your best life, going through the motions like any average person, when all of a sudden, some weird, unexplained phenomena start occurring in your home. Maybe it starts to affect your family life, or maybe, you're perfectly cool with it (?!). Either way, you decide to take some video. You may not notice it at that time, but after going through the footage, you think that you can see a dark presence for a split second lurking around you ...
It's not up to us to convince anyone whether they should believe in these (or any other) alleged paranormal accounts of what would appear to be Shadow People. However, we decided to go over these cases that reportedly happened in Mexico as a way of showing you that these accounts are not exclusive to any region, country or culture around the world ...
Last, but not least, we want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! :)
How much can having enough power to rule the world be worth to you? Are there any limits or lines that you wouldn't cross, no matter what? If so, then you're already a better person than a matriarch of this family, for whom it appears that nothing is out of the question. Even sacrificing some people from her own family to an ancient demon ...
Join us as we discuss this and other details of this intriguing and acclaimed film (though Chuy didn't think it was all that :P). We also discuss some basic demonology and go over a few other examples of portrayals of demons in popular media in our (in)famous Academic Segment.
Are you feeling lonely lately? Don't fret! We know of a way for you to make a new friend without having to leave the comfort of your own residence! Simply follow a very specific sequence of steps, and you'll have a new friend that won't ever leave your side.
Or just let you leave.
Ever :)
For this episode, we decided to look into the Japanese ritual of Hitori Kakurenbo, through which you can reportedly summon a spirit/demon to play a game of hide and seek with you. To complement that, we also decided to explore Japanese culture and talk about some of the supernatural creatures from their folklore.
Imagine, if you will, that you're taking a nice, relaxing walk in the countryside one evening. Everything is great, and to top things off, you could swear that the postcard worthy view is complemented by an eerie whistled tune. Wait ... what?
For our Season 2 Premiere, we decided to discuss the South American folk legend of El Silbon. This entity roams primarily around Venezuela and Colombia, and its story has quite a few variations. What is its origin? What is its purpose? Join us to find out all the details.
This time, the audience clamored Academic Segment deals with the subject of curses. As an added bonus, our host Chuy decided to give a mini music lesson to our audience and crank out his own sick jam to go along with the spirit of our topic! (No pun intended :P)
Thanks to all the listeners, and welcome to Season 2!
They say all good things come to an end, but they also say that endings bring forth new beginnings. As we ponder on the meaning of these two philosophical gems, we are happy to announce that this is the last episode of Season 1 of our podcast. Don't be sad, alarmed, or distraught, however, because although the first Season has reached its end (already?!), we are poring over audience suggestions (and pouring alcohol) so we can create new content for Season 2 :)
In this episode, we discuss how the modern day tradition of Halloween originated in the Celtic festival of Samhain. We are also sharing some creepy stories that were told to us by our guest commentators, and Chuy tests out an app that supposedly captures EVPs of ghosts (the video will be shared on Youtube).
And finally, we'd like to thank everyone that has taken time to listen in, appear as a guest, give feedback/comments/suggestions, or just sent us positive vibes! Catch you very soon for Season 2!
Is there life after death? That's a question for the ages that everyone from scientists to philosophers, from doctors to religious people, and many others more have attempted to respond. In this movie, it certainly appears as though there is. However, the line between life and death is blurred for certain people that are somewhat close to it, as is the case of Matt, a young man dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
Join us as we discuss the plot and themes of this haunted house story. As a bonus, we're featuring our first ever interactive segment where you, the audience, can chime in on an impromptu tarot card reading (which will be available on YouTube) through our social media accounts. What do the cards show for our awesome host Chuy? Slide in our DMs and let us know your interpretation!
Ever feel lonely and in need of some loving? Well, Professor Guildea sure never did. As a man of science, he had no want or time for love, or any other human connection. However, it may seem as though something supernatural thought he was a hot stud and decided to get all up on his body.
Is he being stalked by a thirsty ghost? Is he overstrained from his scientific work and going through a mental breakdown, like his friend Father Murchison thinks he is? Is he somehow being punished for being so selfish? Join us as we discuss this relatively unknown (but pretty good) short story with the help of a special guest.
It's Halloween season! :D
We have decided to start implementing some changes to our format based on some audience suggestions and to start heading into the end of the first season with a series of special episodes.
On this one, we don't discuss any horror film or story at all. Rather, we decided to contact a medium named Mariah and ask her to describe how she goes about conducting her sessions, among other things. Whether or not you believe in that sort of thing is up to you, but we here at EMBL sure had a very emotionally charged and intense experience.
We hope you enjoy this one ...
Is destroying everything and everyone by sending an army of flesh-eating demons justified if it is done as an act of vengeance ?
In this Netflix animated adaptation of the acclaimed series of videogames, Dracula sure seems to think so. Join us as we discuss the many themes that were explored in the short (but amazing) first season, including his motives for waging war against humanity.
As a bonus, we feature an interview with a guest where he discusses his background and relatively newfound enthusiasm for horror, as well as his opinion on the series.
