Research and superstition?

This is no longer how we need to see this duality. In fact, the binary opposition of science and magick is hugely reductive. The two exist on a spectrum of truth. The science is in! Magick is real, baby!

Well, this is the claim of The Spirit Science, a community built around poorly sourced videos discussing dubious, unrepeatable studies that purport that chi balls, astral projection and more are scientifically proven to be real things. When armed with this knowledge, how does the internet handle it? Do they utilize it for some greater understanding and to bridge gaps in scientific and philosophical communities? Well, if you think using astral kung-fu and accidentally cursing your girlfriend will accomplish those goals, then I guess they’re on their way.

This week, Extra Credit’s consciousness sleeps with the fishes.

On your feet, soldier! Don’t you know there’s a war on?! We’ve got to get to the front lines of the internet ASAP. And when we get there, I’m gonna personally shoot that shitposting son of a bitch!

As it goes online, people are wont to lie. This is true whether posting about their sex power, their cheevos, their magickal prowess, and, most pertinent to today, their exploits on the battlefield. Today, the good fight is fought not just on foreign soil, but in our very malls! That’s right, the mall security guard just got a promotion and some can be found with training sufficient to take on black ops missions and face off with the yakuza.

What? Does this sound like utter bullshit to you? You clearly just don’t understand the price of freedom.

For years now otherkin have scurried about on the internet, building off of a myriad of junk drawer philosophies and blatantly ripping off real world religions in order to confirm to themselves and the world that, yes, they are a unicorn in their heart of hearts. Unable to keep crazy contained, otherkin eventually mutated into fictionkin, those who are, in their heart of hearts, a fictional character, like Naruto or that illuminati pyramid from Gravity Falls. Yes it seems that many people are desperate to be anything but themselves.

This evolutionary track doesn’t stop here, though, as entertainment contains not only fictional characters but real people. Thus Factkin, those who are linked to real life people, living or dead, were borne from the tangle of nonsense.

And like all groups that exist in a shared space on the internet, these three delusional camps all looked at each other and screeched “YOU’RE WRONG!”
