In this episode of the EZ Conversations podcast, I welcome Hosein Kouros-Mehr, a physician-scientist and author of 'Breakthrough: Master Your Default Mode and Thrive.' We explore Hosein’s work on the default mode network, the interplay between Western medicine and spirituality, and how various practices like mindfulness, meditation, and prayer can enhance mental and physical health. Hosein shares insights from his personal and professional journey, discussing the science behind the brain’s network and the profound health benefits of integrating ancient philosophical practices. We also delve into strategies for overcoming stress, emotional pain, and addiction, emphasizing the importance of a holistic approach to health and happiness.
Hosein Kouros-Mehr, MD, PhD, is an author and physician-scientist who recently released his third book, Break Through: Master Your Default Mode & Thrive.
Because of his clinical and scientific background, Hosein recognized the extraordinary ramifications of a recent scientific discovery: the default mode network (DMN), which drives our "wandering mind" and influences our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Recognizing the profound impact of this breakthrough on self-understanding (both from clinical and personal experience), he wrote Break Through to help readers master the DMN and live happier, more fulfilling lives.
An avid reader and student of science, philosophy, and religion, Hosein draws on a depth of understanding from medical science, neuroscience, Buddhism, Judeo-Christian teachings, and ancient philosophy. Break Through connects the medical and spiritual realms to help readers unlock health and well-being and awaken their higher selves, opening the doors to new possibilities and experiences.
Hosein also authorizes two novels, Extinction 6 and Project Bodi: Awaken the Power of Insight, that explore how mindfulness cultivates insights and scientific innovation. He lives in Los Angeles, California, with his wife and children.

In this episode of EZ Conversations Podcast, I chat with Kathryn Berg, a classical homeopath with over 20 years of experience. Kathryn shares her journey into homeopathy and her recent focus on using it to treat PTSD among military personnel, first responders, and civilians. She discusses the effectiveness of homeopathic remedies and the development of a unique measurement tool to track progress. The conversation also delves into the Enneagram, a tool for understanding personal motivations and behaviors, and how it complements homeopathy in healing and personal growth. Kathryn explains how she integrates both methods to help clients overcome trauma and improve their mental health. For those interested in learning more, Kathryn offers resources such as a PTSD quiz and her own podcast, Holistic Health Guide.
Kathryn Z Berg, is a seasoned homeopath with over two decades of experience. She stumbled upon the world of homeopathy by sheer accident; after a slip on icy ground, she found herself at a friend's house, nursing some bruises from the icy tumble. She asked her friend for some ice, expecting the conventional remedy for minor injuries. However, her friend suggested Arnica. "It's a homeopathic remedy for bruising," her friend explained. Intrigued by this unconventional approach, Kathryn decided to try Arnica and set off to the store to purchase some. However, she didn't stop there. Eager to delve deeper into this intriguing world of homeopathy, she picked up three books on the subject. As she immersed herself in these texts, a profound realization struck her – she wanted to be a homeopath.
Fast forward over 20 years, and Kathryn is not just a practitioner of homeopathy but a seasoned expert in the field, especially when it comes to helping those with PTSD. The excitement she felt at the beginning of her journey still burns brightly within her. When Kathryn witnesses a client's remarkable improvement through a carefully chosen remedy, that initial spark is reignited.

In this episode of the EZ Conversations podcast, I welcome Joe Masterleo, an experienced professional in the mental health field. They discuss Joe's career journey, experiences and views on the unity of religious faiths, spirituality, and the theory of relativity. The conversation touches on the importance of having an open-minded approach in therapy, mainly when dealing with clients' resistance and anxiety. They also explore the connections between consciousness, vibrational frequency, mental health, and the healing process. The discussion highlights the profound influence of nature on personal well-being and the therapeutic process. Joe shares valuable insights and his personal experiences, providing listeners with a deeper understanding of these intricate subjects.
Joseph C. Masterleo, LCSW-DCSW, is a clinical social worker in private practice in Syracuse, NY and Rockledge, FL. His half-century of service in the mental health care field includes faith-based counselling, with an emphasis on psycho-spiritual integration. His subspecialty involves developing a novel paradigm for synthesizing science, religion, and psychology, identifying the energy and geometric patterns that connect the quantum world with space-time. His model explains how spirit and matter can co-exist as two facets of one reality in a unified field, dissolving the partition walls between previously siloed disciplines. Inspired by the writings of Thomas Merton (ecumenism), Teilhard de Chardin (synthesis), Thomas Berry (ecotheology), and others, his objective is to tell a new, future-looking story for the Ecozic Age, one that forms a connecting bridge between the biblical story of creation, modern science, and ancient cosmologies.
