Nearly 57% of U.S. teen girls felt persistently sad or hopeless in 2021 — double that of boys, representing an almost 60% increase and the highest level reported over the last decade. Nearly 30% of teen girls seriously considered attempting suicide.

In this episode of EZ Conversations, Susan Snow shares her harrowing personal story. At 17, Susan's father, a Los Angeles police detective, was ambushed and murdered, a tragedy witnessed by her six-year-old brother. She recounts the emotional aftermath, the lack of PTSD awareness in 1985, and how she coped with a difficult family dynamic, including her mother's alcoholism and their strained relationship. Susan's healing journey led her to write a book, which became a tool for her recovery and a way to offer hope to others in similar situations. She emphasizes the importance of empathy, forgiveness, and maintaining one's peace while navigating personal trauma. Today, Susan is an author, speaker, and advocate for mental health, continuing to share her story to inspire and support others.
Susan Snow is a keynote speaker and author. In 1985, her father, LAPD Detective Thomas C. Williams, died in the line of duty. Susan chronicles her journey through the trauma she experienced following her father’s death in The Other Side of the Gun, a book born out of her desire to heal herself and her mission to help others in their healing. As a speaker, Susan holds thoughtful and empowering workshops and keynote presentations and has appeared in several media outlets and public speaking forums.
