When you pray. Not if but when you pray. It’s a given that all of us should pray. You need to take the initiative; stir yourself up to pray. The spirit of prayer precedes breakthroughs and opens up opportunities for the gospel to be shared and releases the supernatural power of God. You to live in an atmosphere of prayer so become easily moved to pray for different things you encounter.
When you fast …implying that you should. The Bible clearly tells us that spiritual fasting intensifies prayer. Jesus himself fasted 40 days at the beginning of His ministry. So, He expects His followers to fast from time to time too. Paul let’s us know that it’s a vital part of his life.
Fasting and prayer aligns you to the purpose God has for you. Often, we have ‘tunnel vision’ and only see the immediate, but God sees around the corner of our lives and moves us toward that. Though you may not always understand the mystery of fasting and prayer, you need to know and see you set aside the ‘appetites’ of the flesh to seek God, you are clearing the space you need for Him to come and speak with you and you are calling out to Him to quench your thirsty heart with His presence. Sounds like a perfect piece of our foundations!

Matt. 25:14-30; Rom. 14:10-12; Deut. 8:17-18; Ps. 89:11-12; 1 Peter 4:10 - When you go to a hotel, you might give your bags to a steward who takes them to your room, but they are not his bags. You entrust your bags and their safekeeping to him for a short period of time. The foundational principle of stewardship is that God is the owner of all!
So, what does this say about the relationship to the owner and the stuff entrusted to you? If God is the owner, then you are the manager who He has trusted His property. You have to learn to think like His manager. A manager oversees the owners assets for the owners benefit. As manager, you carry no sense of entitlement to the assets you manage. The job of the manager is to find out what the owner wants done with His assets and then carries out His will. This understanding affects what you do with what you’ve been given. Everything God has given to you has now been entrusted for you to care for and use for His glory.

The word “disciple” comes from the classroom. It literally means “student” or “learner.” It isn’t unusual that the men who followed Christ were called his disciples. The first disciples were students and Jesus was their teacher. For three and a half years they followed up and down Galilee, watching, listening, observing, asking questions, drinking in everything their Master did and said. Jesus had a three-fold plan for training his disciples: First, learning by watching. Second, learning by doing. Third, learning by teaching others.
But what does a disciple look like? How is their life demonstrated? Once you know that and begin to live it, you are called to find some and make some more. The foundation for each of is to be a disciple and make disciples.

God speaks, and He does so through His Word. The God who spoke to reveal Himself and His ways promised a Savior, a promise He fulfilled through Jesus Christ. As you submit your life to Christ in repentance and faith for salvation, you also submit to the authority of God's Word. God speaks to His people by His Spirit through His Word. In order for you to understand God's Word rightly, you must interpret it appropriately. As followers of Christ, one way we show our submission to God is by our submission to His Word, not only by acknowledging its truthfulness, but by walking in obedience to the truth it teaches

The fact: Jesus came and died a cruel death on a cross! The fact: Jesus was raised to life 3 days later. These two facts make the raising of Jesus critical to the people of faith. Without these two, why meet? Jesus MUST rise from the dead or this faith thing is useless.
To cook microwave popcorn usually doesn’t take any longer than 2 to 2.5 minutes. But it seems like the first minute of waiting is excruciating. Nothing is happening. The microwave is making noise; the light is on,; the bag is turning; and the time is counting down —but the opportunity isn’t doing anything.
But what is the one thing that sets your mind at ease? It’s the sound of the first kernel popping —that one, lone, single pop that brings you hope. Why? Because that sound is the first of hundreds of pops that are getting ready to explode, one right after the other for about 30 seconds.
And when the bag begins to go from flat to raised. It goes from death to life! The aroma of life now fills the room and people begin to gather.
This is what happens with Jesus. Jesus will do something that has never happened before. Jesus will predict His own death and then does the astounding; he predicts His life rises again! This is foundational to making the reason for even being here possible. This foundation sets us apart from every other religion and it’s something we must tell others about!

Palm Sunday is the day we traditionally celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem the week prior to the crucifixion and resurrection. It is a day that starkly contrasts the events that occur later that week. Today, Jesus is welcomed by crowds into the city as a conquering king, but only days later He is met with chants for his execution from the same crowds that welcomed Him. How did this come to be? Why did they reject Jesus? As we delve into the history of this event we will see how Jesus did not meet the expectations of the people, but how He superseded all expectations and ideas surrounding the Messiah, the savior from God.

Foundational to your spiritual formation you find that God wants a relationship with you. Let me remind you that God is not simply a power, He is a person. As a person, you can relate to Him and love Him and get to know Him. He is a God who is present. He is not simply a God who is out there, but a God who is right here. He is my God, your God, a personal God that walks with us in the here and now.
Once I saw etched in a door the words "God was here." When I returned to the spot a week later, someone had marked through "was" and etched above it "is." God is here. That's your God, He is here, every day, every step, every turn, every situation.
So, Jesus was born so that He could be born in you; so that you could be born again; so that you could know God personally and live with him for eternity. The Creator of the Universe does not want to be an impersonal force in your life.
He wants to have a real, personal relationship with you, so He became like you so He could live a perfect life, so He could justifiably be the perfect sacrifice for your sins; so, you could know Him personally – for eternity.

Many have confused then concept of God. Some even say they follow God. But do they truly know who God is? Others see God as far removed, a distant, unapproachable power, having faded into the past with little meaning.
One day you will be face to face with God. It’s not enough to just believe in God; you must truly know Him. He tells you that to know God is to tremble in His presence, because once you know God’s character, you understand the depth of your own sinfulness. Whey you truly know God, you are adopted into His family and given a hope of eternity. Knowing and living with what you understand of Who God is becomes foundational in your everyday journey.

In this last section of John’s first letter we will read the purpose statement of the letter. “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may KNOW that you have eternal life.” This letter has intended to instill confidence in the believers of Jesus that they know they are in relationship with God. Jesus is God. When you believe that and submit to His authority by walking in the light and joyfullly keeping His commands, you know you have eternal life. John gives two more areas in our lives where we can be confident in the Lord – in our prayers and in our protection. This is experiencing Real Love.
