(Drew Staudenmaier) Why did God give the 10 commandments and all the other commandments we find in the Bible? Is it because He gets some dictator-like satisfaction out of people following some arbitrary rules?... Or could it be that maybe God doesn’t enjoy watching His creation suffer?... As we study the prohibition of adultery we will delve into why you can trust God as a good and wise creator who really does love his creation and knows what is best for it. We will also examine some of the implications and challenges that people have presented against God’s designs for humanity and how you can witness the goodness of God to the world around you!

(Brian Schreiber) – This commandment lifts human life to the very highest level. Life is God’s gift, and we had better not tamper with it. No person can restore life once it’s ended. But before we write off that this command is only for murderers, let’s not lose sight of what Jesus brings to the command. That changes everything. Come and find out how.

(Brian Schreiber) – When you first look at the fifth commandment it seems to just be directed at children – what they need to do in honoring their father and mother. Yet, for many, childhood is not a place they want to return to. It is filled with bad memories of past that doesn’t feel like honoring. But what we find out in this command is that you and I are forever children to a Heavenly Father. How do you live to honor those you who want the best for you? Let’s find out.

(Brian Schreiber)-There is no question our schedules can get the best of us. They demand attention. Many times our schedules and excuses us to find time to slow down, to properly rest. In today’s commandment we discover that God wasn’t above resting. It’s strange that with all of the other commandments, they come down strong and understandable. It is no different with this command. God pressed pause in His life. What makes you think that you can do anything less? Let’s find out how we can “Be still and know that He is God!” What’s this look like in our world?

(Brian Schreiber) - Every Commandment has its problems. Some are difficult to understand, others are difficult to interpret, and some are difficult to apply. The Third Commandment presents us with a unique problem: We understand it all too well – “do not use the Lord’s name in vain.” This is not a commandment about swearing. Or at least we can say that’s certainly not the main point. The issue is whether or not you take God’s name seriously. The key to understanding the Third Commandment lies in properly understanding the phrase “in vain.” The Hebrew expression means “lightly, frivolously, loosely or casually.” To take God’s name “in vain” means to use it in a light, frivolous or casual way. The old adage is true “there is a lot in a name” – especially God’s.

(Brian Schreiber) – The old Abbot and Costello skit was a constant question as to who was on first base. It was very funny! However, the question in this message is “Who’s on First in your life?” This is the basic idea of the first commandment given by God. The issue must be settled in your mind if you are serious about serving the Lord. So many things are in battle for what’s first at times. God knew we’d struggle with this. God wants to tell us who must be on first if our lives are to be everything they can for the glory of God.

(Brian Schreiber) – We can sometimes really be impatient with God. We think that He’s not fast enough for us. But in todays text from Peter, he is going to let us know that God is not slow at His return. Though these verse, we will see that just because the clock has ticked off 2000 plus years since Jesus promised He would return, we shouldn’t think God is slow. God is not slow, He’s patient and working to save all who would come to Him in repentance and faith. The point Peter is making is that when God’s promises seem slow in coming, God is not slow where time is concerned. Time to God is not the issue whether it is a thousand years or one day. The reason Jesus has not returned yet is not because the date hasn’t arrived but it’s because God is merciful and waiting for the last person to believe. Because “God is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” God, slow? No. God is sure!

(Brian Schreiber) – I don’t know about you, but most of us need rescuing more than just once. We step in “cow piles” all the time. We need rescuing. Peter knows this from experience in his own life and the lives of those he sees in God’s Word. God did not spare unrepentant sinners in Noah’s day and he didn’t spare unrepentant sinners in Sodom and Gomorrah. But the really good news is that according to Romans 8:32 He did not spare His own Son! Friends, there is no way of escaping out of Hell once you’re there. But Jesus said in John 5:24 that there’s a way of escaping before you enter: “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.” Peter will make it clear fro those growing up in grace, you don’t have to go to Hell. God has provided a way of escape for you. God has spoken clearly. He has not lost His voice and His volume is not weak as He loudly proclaims that You Can Be Rescued!
