So how do you do a budget? Lot’s of people understand the rationale behind having a budget and they’re convinced they need one but it often stops right there because they just don’t know what the next steps should be. So today in a few easy steps, Rob and Steve outline the steps to start a budget.

Why?

Proverbs 27 -- God wants us as stewards of his resources to have a financial plan.

How?

Track your spending for 30 days.

Learn what your true income is after taxes (refer to your paystub).

Break down your monthly expenses by category once you’ve tracked for 30 days.

Compare your expense with your income and check if your outgo surpasses your income.

Make adjustments if your outgo exceeds your income.

Make sure both spouses do this together.

Make sure to capture non-recurring expenses like insurance or HOA fees so you don’t forget those.

Once you’ve established your budget, start saving for an emergency fund.
