Jesse Johnson is one of the greatest woodsmen we know! Local to north Texas, Jesse has blazed trails into public land hunting for whitetail and hogs with two favored weapons of choice; a traditional bow and an old-school Flintlock Muzzleloader. Jesse returns as a guest on the podcast to share with us once again his passion for public land and traditional bow hunting. We talk trad archery, bow and arrow builds, and the grind of hunting public with a stick and string. Jesse also shares with us two of his most recent memorable non-resident hunts for Colorado elk with a muzzleloader and Canadian black bear with a trad bow. Jesse's passion for the outdoors is contagious, and over the years has peaked many of our own interests in picking up an old-school stick and string and getting after it! One thing's for sure, Jesse has developed a set of skills that set him apart, no matter if he's rocking the long bow or the ol' smoke pole!

We typically steer clear of politics on our podcast. However we do believe there is a time and place for such "political" discussions when it comes to our rights as hunters and outdoors men and women; specific to over-regulating, voter-based bans and a disregard for conservation and management research and statistics by States and Commissions. We believe game regulations have their place as long as long as ethics, conservation and education have been appropriately considered and applied. In today's world, that line continues to become blurred more and more by Fish and Game departments caving to uneducated agendas and voter-based decisions. This week, we unpack all of this with guest Mike Behrens; specifically looking at recent events including the ban of wild hog hunting in Kentucky, the very first mountain lion trapping ban in Texas, wolf and mountain lion events in Colorado, and more! Some may call this conversation "controversial", but we believe it is every hunter's responsibility to weigh in on the decisions made by their own Fish and Game Commissions, and to pay attention to other State's around them. The American Outdoors Man and Woman has a voice; don't be scared to use it.

The First Responder Community always will be near and dear to us, and many times in the past we have shed light on our first responders through this show; tying in to our love and passion for the outdoors. However this episode hits a little closer to home. Joined by guest Gray Schneider from the Season of Stories organization (S.O.S.), our host Sam shares a mutual connection to Gray through a North Texas Firefighter named Wade Cannon. Wade passed away in 2022 from occupational colon cancer at the age of 31; leaving Gray and others with a burning passion to take action. Inspired by Wade, Gray and other's love for the outdoors, Season of Stories is a project that will initially take us on an adventure across North America this fall in dozens of waterfowl hunting camps with industry influencers using heirloom gear and a leather journal documenting the memories we all live and breathe for. The proceeds of S.O.S.'s project are dedicated to the mission of ensuring pre-cancer health screenings for as many first responders as possible. Tune in and hear the inspiring origins to this project, as Gray and Sam take us from start to finish through the story of Wade Cannon and the legacy that follows him.
