January 29, 2024Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: ‘Masters of the Air’ is impressively immersiveAndy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of January 26, 2024. “Masters of the Air” on Apple TV+ is an impressively immersive ride. The World War II historical drama from "Band of Brothers" producers has great production quality and details. Over on Amazon Prime Video, there is a fine new retelling of the famous swashbuckling hero, "Zorro." While it was enjoyable, the English dub wasn't as good as it could have been. And in select theaters, "The Zone of Interest" reminds us that real people can do terrible things once they've dehumanized another group of real people. The brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing nerdy with a goal to publish a weekly "What to Watch on the Weekend" minisodes, taken from KSL-TV's Friday segment, and two deep-dives a month on shows, creative works, artists, local events, and other fandom topics. January 05, 2024Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: You might want to dip out on ‘Night Swim’Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of January 5, 2024. The big movie of the week, "Night Swim," is not the best offering from Blumhouse Horror, with the trailer being scarier than the movie. For something more bloody, there is “Mayhem!" a super-bloody revenge pic that features a lot of Muy Thai martial arts. “Race for Glory: Audi vs. Lancia" tells a story about the true events of the 1983 Rally World championships where Lancia finally was able to take on Audi successfully. And for a comedic throwback, ”Weak Layer" is a comedy ski movie that made Andy even want to hit the slopes! Over in the world of streaming shows, Netflix’s "Society of the Snow" is Andy’s pick-of-the-week, a difficult but worthwhile watch following the survival of the 45 people who crashed in the Andes mountains of South America in 1972. Amazon Prime Video has a sci-fi movie featuring Paul Mescal and Saoirse Ronan called "Foe." On Netflix, Michelle Yeoh stars in a decent action/comedy series, "The Brothers Sun," and even features secret improv classes. And finally, Hulu’s "Daughters of the Cult" is a docu-series that talks with family members of Ervil LeBaron, the religious leader whose followers killed other polygamous leaders during the 1970s and early 1980s.Beyond Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Gaming, and Tech, the brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing the nerdy. December 23, 2023Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: Hollywood not holding anything back for Christmas weekend!Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of December 22, 2023. Hollywood not holding anything back for Christmas weekend! So many movies to watch! First off is the fun, kid-friendly take on the vacation movie with a family of animated ducks heading south with "Migration." "Aquaman & The Lost Kingdom" is kind of a buddy-cop take on the superhero movie "The Iron Claw," which sees Zac Efron getting all swole on us as real-life wrestler Kevin Von Erich."Anyone But You" features a pretend couple at a wedding, and it's basically good-looking people in an exotic location getting into easily preventable mishaps, just like a rom-com should be!A musical version of "The Color Purple" makes its debut on the big screen. George Clooney directs "The Boys in the Boat", and tells the true story of the 1936 University of Washington rowing team. "Ferrari" features Adam Driver as Enzo Ferrari, the carmaker and racer who is dealing with the potential fall of his company in the 1950s. And "Percy Jackson & the Olympians" hits Hulu and DisneyPlus as a new series that is a little more faithful to the books than the movies were. And finally, a Merry Christmas to each of you! Beyond Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Gaming, and Tech, the brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing the nerdy. Brilliant opinions and commentary on all things geek, but surprising knowledge and witty arguments over pop culture, Star Trek, MARVEL vs. DC, and a wide range of movies, TV shows, and more. December 18, 2023Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: ‘Wonka’ is a whimsically fun mix of magic and colorAndy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of December 15, 2023. "Wonka," the musical backstory of Willy Wonka, played here by Timothee Chalamet, is enjoyable for the whole family with a whimsically fun mix of magic and color. Over on streaming platforms is the family movie "Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget," the much anticipated animated sequel to the original some 23 years later, with Rocky and Ginger parenting a rebellious teenager of their own. "The Family Plan" over on AppleTV Plus sees Mark Wahlberg trying to protect his family from his past life and prevent them from knowing he used to be an assassin in the sometimes ridiculous but also kinda fun and funny action-comedy. And the second season of "Reacher" is on Amazon Prime Video, perhaps the best action-thriller series on TV this year. Alan Ritchson is perfectly cast, and the story zips along with great supporting characters. (And according to Producer KellieAnn, it lives up to the books better than the movie version of the series.)
