Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of November 3, 2023. Are you ready for another Elvis biopic? Well, "Priscilla is the latest one, and it's about the relationship between Elvis and Priscilla Presley as told through Sofia Coppola's direction. "The Marsh King's Daughter" is a tense, engaging story featuring Daisy Ridley and a dark menace in her character’s past. "What Happens Later" sees Meg Ryan return to the big screen for the first time in eight years in a rom-com with David Duchovny about two ex-lovers stuck in an airport together. "The Persian Version" is not for everyone, but it is a funny and poignant movie about an Iranian-American girl and her struggles with her two heritages.  But the best thing Andy watched was probably "Radical," starring Eugenio Derbez, a true story about a teacher who got some of the worst-performing students in Mexico to love learning.

Over on streaming services…Netflix’s "All the Light We Cannot See" is a streaming series based on the best-selling book about a blind girl who made illegal radio broadcasts in a German-occupied coastal French town near the end of World War II. "Sly," also on Netflix, is a streaming documentary that reminds us how amazing screenwriter Sylvester Stallone is and makes me wish I could watch movies with the guy. And Hulu has "Quiz Lady," an occasionally funny streaming movie about sisters (Awkwafina and Sandra Oh) who want to get on a Jeopardy-like show to earn money for their mom's gambling debts.

Surviving murderous animatronic puppets at an abandoned kids' pizza joint is the hook for “Five Nights at Freddy's,” but will the movie win the box office this Halloweekend? Also in theaters is Angel Studios’ "After Death," a cinematic exploration of near-death experiences. "Freelance" is an action comedy starring John Cena & Alison Brie. 

For streaming, Netflix has a new streaming movie starring Chris Evans, Emily Blunt, and Andy Garcia called "Pain Hustlers," about more misdeeds from Big Pharma during the opioid epidemic. The second season of "The Gilded Age" is now streaming on HBO, which is the American-cousin-version of "Downton Abbey." "Curses!" is an animated streaming series about an Indiana Jones-style family trying to return stolen artifacts over on Apple TV Plus. And Disney Plus has the humorous animated short "LEGO Marvel Avengers: Code Red" that brings in the X-Men (in LEGO form, of course). 

But Andy’s pick of the week is Paramount Plus’s documentary "Milli Vanilli," about the infamous lip-syncing music duo from 1989-90. The whole story is so wild that you wouldn't believe it if it hadn't happened.

It's a big commitment (3.5 hours), but "Killers of the Flower Moon" demonstrates again why Martin Scorsese is so acclaimed as a director. It's definitely bait for the Academy Awards. For more kid-friendly fare in theaters, there is an animated movie based on the Oscar Wilde short story “The Canterville Ghost.”

In streaming, Netflix has a biographical movie about long-distance swimmer Diana ‘Nyad,’ a comedy series Neon about a musician and his two friends trying to make it in the Reggaeton industry in Miami, and the comedy “Old Dads” about the clash between the parenting styles. Apple TV Plus has a new documentary about the spy novelist (and former spy himself) John Le Carre called “The Pigeon Tunnel.” While HBO Max is A new animated short telling of “Peter & the Wolf” based on some art by U2 frontman Bono.

No surprise, Taylor Swift and her "Eras Tour" movie is the juggernaut item on many people's list, and it leads off this “What to Watch” segment. For more traditional cinema fare, "The Burial" tells a true story about a Mississippi funeral home owner who hires a flashy Florida lawyer to help him in his lawsuit against a rich investor.

For streaming shows, there are reboots and reinterpretations of classics, with "Frasier" on Paramount Plus and a new "Goosebumps" series on BOTH Hulu & DisneyPlus. Also on Paramount Plus is "Painkiller: The Tylenol Murders," a documentary about the 1982 scare when Tylenol was forced to recall all their products nationwide after 7 people died. Netflix has "The Fall of the House of Usher," a drama series based on the Edgar Allen Poe story, but set in modern times as a rich and evil pharmaceutical company owner is forced to face a reckoning of his own past when his children are killed. Then on AppleTV Plus, Brie Larson headlines "Lessons In Chemistry," a streaming series about a talented chemist in the 1950s & 60s who creates a cooking show, and the sports documentary "Messi Meets America" focuses on the reigning World Cup champion and his experiences joining Major League Soccer in the U.S.

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of October 6, 2023. There is a lot to watch this week, headlined by "The Exorcist: Believer," which is a direct sequel to the original movie, including a return by Ellen Burstyn to her role for the first time in 50 years. Season 2 of "Loki" in the Marvel Cinematic Universe deals with more time-travel shenanigans.

"She Came to Me" is an odd yet humorous movie with Peter Dinklage as an opera writer with writer's block until a spontaneous one-night stand."Totally Killer" on Prime video is a surprisingly entertaining movie that is like a cross between "Back to The Future," and "Frequency," and a teen slasher film. I couldn't believe I enjoyed it. A military courtroom drama movie that's coming to streaming is "The Caine Mutiny Court Martial," based on a classic novel but set in modern times. "Monster High 2" brings back the live-action musical version of the Mattel toys, and "Fright Krewe" is a cartoon for older kids about using magic to defend New Orleans from monsters.

The most uplifting thing I've watched in a while is "Break the Mold: The Zach Bates Story," a documentary about a young adult with autism from Arizona who decides to run a 100-mile ultramarathon. You will shed emotionally healing tears watching this.

The big movie of the week is from "Rogue One's" Gareth Edwards and is called "The Creator", an original and creative sci-fi tale about humans battling Artificial Intelligence. As we enter the spooky month of October, many movies have a horror bent to them, including Uma Thurman & Sam Jackson back in a movie together again in "The Kill Room," "Reptile" with Benicio Del Toro, Justin Timberlake & Alicia Silverstone about a detective finding out the murder of a real estate agent was only the beginning of a web of crime in a small town, and of course "Saw X", another entry in the torture-horror movie series.

For less creepy fare, there is a new entry in the "PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie" animated series, a stylized 39-minute movie from director Wes Anderson based on the Roald Dahl short story called "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar." And Bono's daughter Eve Hewson shines in "Flora and Son" on streaming, a touching story about the power of music and its ability to connect people.

"Expend4bles" brings back the Stallone action movie series to the big screen, even if Sly isn't the lead in this one; so is it watchable?  "Spy Kids: Armageddon" sees Zachary Levi & Gina Rodriguez take over as the spy parents of the spy kids in a movie that your own kids will love. "The Continental" streaming series may be from the world of "John Wick," but John himself is nowhere to be found. "Dumb Money" tells the fascinating true story of the Gamestop stock drama of 2021, while  "No One Will Save You" is a head-scratchingly different alien invasion movie. "The Saint of Second Chances" is about the man who came up with the infamous disco-demolition night at an MLB game in 1979. **There's much more to his story. "Still Up" is a half-hour comedy series about two insomniacs who build a relationship through late-night video chats. "The Super Models" tells the story of four supermodels who changed the industry back in the '80s and '90s by banding together.
