JG Quintel, creator of Cartoon Network's Regular Show has a new series on HBO Max called, Close Enough, about a 30-something couple having to finally start adulting as they raise their infant daughter, deal with granola teachers and weirdo roommates.
We spoke with Quintel about the new series and about this evening's panel for Comic-Con@Home. Check out the rundown bellow and listen to our interview above:
CLOSE ENOUGH
Thursday, July 23 at 5 p.m. PT
Originally, we recorded this interview with Nelson Lee during Asian Heritage Month and were going to release it closer to the release date of Mulan, where Lee plays The Chancellor in Disney's upcoming live action version of the animated classic. However, with the global pandemic and the movie's release date being pushed back it was wiser for us to release it now on this week's episode of Stargirl airing on the DC Universe App and the CW Network, that the Dragon King's face was revealed, who Lee also portrays on the hit new series.
We spoke with Lee about what it meant to be a Chinese born-Canadian actor to return to his ancestral homeland to film a more accurate version of the epic tale of Mulan, how it feels to be a DC Entertainment super villain and art has influenced his life in now living the American Dream.
Follow Nelson Lee on Instagram @malenky and catch Stargirl every Monday on the DC Universe App and Tuesday on The CW.
I called out Andre Gower at the beginning of this interview for being the cause of half my class driving our third grade teacher nuts when we would scream out, "The Wolfman's Got Nards!" but in reality, he and the entire cast of Monster Squad should be thanked for that, because it helped kids like me enjoy the quirky humor of what is now considered a cult film.
Fast forward a few decades and I finally got to talk to the man that helped my interest in classic horror movies for his latest film, Baby Frankenstein. Although, the title is slightly misleading, the film follows two kids who befriend an android created in the 1950s by Dauvin Lundquist's (Gower) grandfather. Now it is Lundquist who desires to find his grandfather's creation while Lance (Ian Barling) and Truth (Cora Savage) keep the little guy safe from Lance's mom's reward hungry boyfriend Ken (Patrick McCartney).
We spoke with Gower about Baby Frankenstein, the influence Monster Squad has had on fandom, what Brent Chalem aka Horace would have enjoyed at fan meet-and-greets, the movie going experienc and about the Wolfman's Got Nards! documentary.

Baby Frankenstein is available now on VOD.
Originally released in 1986 during the rise of the BMX bike craze, Rad had every kid going nuts while trying to perform the tricks seen on screen. Many of my friends had broken a limb or two trying to perform the stunts by Cru Jones (Bill Allen) and all the other well known racers of the time.
As the power of pop cultural nostalgia continues to chug along, it is only fitting that Rad is transferring over form VHS to digital and disc formats with a newly restored 4K version from its original negative by Fotokem.
The look on my stoic cousin's face said it all when he heard about the release of Rad coming to digital via Altavod and via 4K and Blu-ray through Robert Schwartzmann's Utopia Distribution. Shartzmann is the son of the late Jack Schwartzman and Talia Shire, who played Cru's mom in the film and has been apart of two of the largest franchises in film history, including The Godfather and Rocky.
We caught up with Schwartzman and Shire about celebrating this film, the legacy his father left behind and the huge cult following that not influenced pop culture but racing culture as well.
Rad is currently available on VOD and will be on disc format, Friday, July 24, 2020.

Josh Dela Cruz is truly living the American Dream. Born in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the son of Filipino immigrants who met while working in the Arab nation, then moved to the United States, where he and his two sisters would grow up living to their fullest potential.
Cruz is not only the star of Blues Clues & You!, the third installment of the wildly popular children's franchise on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr., but also co-stars in the musical, American Morning, about two Chinese immigrants in New York City that share the same medallion tax cab and show how their perception on life changes between optimism to eventually being beaten down by the stresses of society.
Originally titled Costs of Living, American Morning is a musical written by Timothy Huang, who was inspired by the New York Times article, Night and Day by Corey Kilgannon.
We caught up with Cruz, sharing both our immigrant stories, how we can never complain about our struggles especially in knowing what it took for our parents to get here, how he became acquainted with Timothy Huang regarding the project, which the studio recording is now streaming on Spotify.

Yes, this is a repost. We know that actress Javicia Leslie who co-starred on 'God Friended Me' will be the new Batwoman, but for someone reason the podcast went missing and it is responsible to repost the interview as Ms. Deville was kind enough to chat with us about this role, Her helping a young woman come out to her family in the WWE Series, 'Fight Like a Girl' and being a WWE Superstar.
Allison Marie Volk is the writer and star of the independent dark comedy with a touch of romance called, Deany Bean is Dead. A woman who still has a deep infatuation with her ex-fiance Tom (Christopher Glenn Cannon), who is now engaged to Angela (Sarah Siadat) as she crashes their engagement party.
Alas, all isn't well in Deany's life, along with stalking her former lover, she has to deal with her tyrannical, Australian boss, Maxine Williams (Wendy Wilkins), who has a near death experience due to a peanut allergy.
If you think that's the entire plot, then wait until you meet Myron (Colin Taylor Martin, Volk's real life husband) and every other possible twist that makes this comedy well worth the VOD asking price.
We caught up with Volk after having not spoken to her since Disney's The Lone Ranger red carpet at Disney's California Adventure several years back, cracked a few jokes and tried our hardest not to give away too many spoilers as their is just so much to talk about in regards to this 90-minute film.
Deany Bean is Dead comes to VOD on Friday, July 10, 2020.

Peri Gilpin continues to have a wonderful career in with a possible Emmy nomination for Old Guy on as Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series, it proves that she is still a talent worth recognizing.
Intitially, Old Guy was shot filmed in 2013 by the five Burton sisters, as a project for their father, Roger Burton. The elder Burton had always had a passion for acting but gave it up for a stable career. After retiring from his, "real job," Mr. Burton decided to give acting another go, but this time the only roles he was getting were of dead bodies and men with bladder issues.
Enter Gilpin, who plays the roll of the lovably brash agent, Winnie that seeks to earn her commission check instead of giving a darn about the roles that Harry (Burton) gets so long as the money is keeps coming in.
We spoke with Gilpin about her career, working with Mr. Burton and his five, brilliant daughters, one being Jennifer Burton, a Harvard graduate and Tufts University professor, as well what it means to have a project that was 7 years in the can to finally get recognized and appreciated by a larger audience.
