Fantasy Benchwarmers

Another day another disappointment for Lamarcus Aldridge owners. Despite playing an average of just 29 minutes in three games and having not much to show stat-wise, LMA missed the Spurs' fourth game with a sore left knee. In today's quickie, comm Eric and I vent our frustrations with LMA and suggest ways to maybe get rid of him without getting low-balled. Aside from LMA, Jusuf Nurkic has been another major disappointment and we wonder if Robert Covington and Derrick Jones Jr's presence might be impacting Nurkic's fantasy value.

On a more positive note, we also look into Jaylen Brown, Dejounte Murray and Tyler Herro's play to start the year. And we had a Lamelo Ball sighting today versus the Dallas Mavericks. Ball had so far his best game in the NBA helping the Hornets upset the Mavericks. Commissioner Eric also admits he underestimated the value of Miles Bridges who seems comfortable in the off the bench role for the Hornets.

It's the last day of 2020 and we wanted to squeeze in one last episode and end the year with a bang. We were introduced to Pinoyliga.com after being invited to talk some fantasy basketball during the webcast of Jump Through Hoops. We got curious about Pinoyliga.com and decided to invite its founder Benny Benitez to join us to talk basketball. Benny is also the host of the Bull By the Horn webcast.

In this episode, we talked about the beginnings of Pinoyliga.com and how it became a staple platform for casual and competitive amateur leagues all over the country. Not spared from the effects of this pandemic, we also talked about how Benitez and his team shifted their focus to survive and thrive in the digital space. We also talked about our country's basketball program and the progression it has made every year to be considered one of the top teams in Asia and a known program in the world. 

Finally, we could not end an episode without any discussion about NBA fantasy basketball! We talked about Benny's team and discussed some of the questions he had for us.

2020 may have been a rough year for us, but as the saying goes, when one door closes another one opens and we are thankful that this podcast was the door that opened for us last May. To all those who continue to support us, from our family and friends to our guests and to the growing community of our NBA Fantasy Locker Room group, thank you!

Ja Morant will be out 3-5 weeks and we already talked about the potential beneficiaries yesterday. In today's episode we go through our usual list of notable performances and players we're worried about. We added a few players on the watchlist (Cam Johnson, Saddiq Bey, etc).  

Since many of the leagues will probably have limited free agent prospects, we talked about when's a good time to use your waiver priority. Having a high waiver priority can also give you the advantage when an opposing manager drops a player who is underperforming but has very good upside.

It's the start of week 2 and for Ja Morant owners, the week did not seem to start off well after Morant landed badly while attempting to block a shot. He was wheeled off the floor and that alone is concerning. In a few hours, we'll get to know the severity of his injury, but there's a big chance he misses some time.   So in this quickie, we talk about beneficiaries to Morant's possible absence. 

We also talk about our nightmare players so far - John Collins, Brandon Clarke, Jusuf Nurkic and Anthony Davis. And finally some notable performances that could merit a roster spot in your team assuming they are still available.

It's week 1 judgement day and for KAT and AD owners, their injuries couldn't have come at the worst time. Hopefully, you were able to secure your matchups. The good news though at least for Davis, he most likely would be back tomorrow. As for Towns, let's just hope he won't be out too long.  

Today's notable performances was led by Steph Curry and Luka Doncic. While some players trending up include Markelle Fultz, Alec Burks, Josh Richardson and Myles Turner just to name a few.  

We also talked briefly about the worrying usage of Hassan Whiteside, Lamarcus Aldridge (again), Brook Lopez and the still slumping Kelly Oubre Jr.

Whatever James Harden does off the court doesn't really mean much in NBA Fantasy, and today, he reminded us why he is the number 1 fantasy basketball player.

In today's quickie, we marvel at Harden's stat line, and talk about other notable performances (Chris Boucher, Andre Drummond, Blake Griffin, etc). We also take a look at who's trending up and which OKC player/s you must own.

The Christmas Day games turned out to be a snooze fest with pretty much all of the games being blowouts.

But in fantasy basketball, we could care less about the results as long as our players performed. In our quickie, we talk about the injuries to key stars Jimmy Butler and Kawhi Leonard and who could step up to take their roles in case they miss time.

We also talked about Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving - when do you accept if KD or Kyrie are offered.

And of course we look at some worrying performances and some potential free agent pickups and players to watch.

What is great about joining fantasy leagues outside of your own circle of friends is that we meet new friends who share the same enthusiasm in fantasy basketball and the NBA. In this episode, I invited a fellow manager who I only met this season after joining a league organized by a common friend. He is considered by his fellow managers the Lavar Ball of the group, so I got curious and we were glad he did not hesitate to accept our invitation. And it was also the perfect episode to make bold predictions and "fearless" forecasts.

In this episode we share our forecasts for the season both in the real NBA floor and the fantasy basketball arena. Who do you think comes out of the East? and West? Who do you think wins the title this season? Who will be ranked higher in fantasy at the end of the season - Ja Morant or Zion Williamson? Who will be better fantasy option this year - Kawhi Leonard, Lebron James or Kevin Durant?

Whew! What a day in the NBA. Started with Harden's trip to the strip club and ended with buzzer beaters, blowouts and crazy stat lines. Here are some instant reactions for the day:

Boring Picks Rule- sometimes old boring friends are just better

Kyle Lowry- 18p/10a/4 3s // Eric Bledsoe- 18p/2r/6a/4 3s// Larry Nance-13p/13r/8a/3s/2b!!//Khris Middleton-27p/14r/8a // Terrence Ross- 19p/ 3 3s

and of course- Terry Rozier who had the stat of the night with 42 pts and 10 3s!!!

In fantasy, it doesn't matter if the player is the sexy pick, it's the stats that matter. All these players were under drafted. Ross always end up in the top 100 but ended up undrafted in many of my leagues. Nance was top 80 last year although Love was injured but falling to 120s was criminally low. And Lowry at 40s, Middleton at late 30s? Insane values.

Rising Sophomores

Darius Garland and RJ Barrett were panned last year but they look different this year. Garland hit 4 3s and had 6 assts, RJ Barrett shot 10/13 FG and although he won't shoot this well always, I think he will be better in fantasy that we all thought. Keldon Johnson continued his bubble level play and started. Of course, Ja Morant was Ja Morant- 44 pts and lots of highlight plays.

Part 2 of a solid episode with Papi Roi of Fantasy Basketball PH! We know that there are still a lot of leagues drafting in the next 2-3 days so for sure, this would help. Papi Roi goes through his middle rounds and some interesting picks he made. What I love about this episode is that Papi Roi gave great insights and shared the rationale behind his picks not just from the value perspective but how he feels each player would help his team or complement his core guys.
