reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets users have been a driving force of this phenomenon. Realizing that many people were shorting the stock, redditors started buying up as many GME stocks as they could, driving up the price of the stock and triggering a "short squeeze", in which people who shorted the stock start buying shares in order to forestall even greater losses.  

This creates a vicious cycle, further driving up the price of shares, which can be very damaging to those who shorted the stock, but very beneficial to those who invested early.   

The surge over the past two weeks has created more than $2 billion in personal wealth for the company’s three biggest individual shareholders.

Rudy Giuliani has been sued by Dominion Voting Systems for over $1.3 billion after pushing "falsehoods" about how Dominion played a large role in election fraud that altered the course of the 2020 presidential election. 

A police officer in Tacoma, Washington drove through a crowd of people who surrounded the car and were banging on the windows and kicking the outside of the vehicle. At least one person was transported to the hospital, and their condition is currently not known.   

Oklahoma state representative Justin Humphrey wants to make an official "Bigfoot hunting season." While he makes it clear that killing Bigfoot isn't the goal, he wants to offer a $25,000 incentive for capturing it. The real goal is to increase tourism and outdoor recreation for those who want to enjoy the beauty of Oklahoma.  

A 33 year old man from California has been discovered living undetected in Chicago's O'Hare airport for 3 months. He states that he remained in the airport due to fears of Covid. Cook County Judge Susana Ortiz's main concern is how an unauthorized individual remained undetected in a secure, employees-only area of the busiest airport in the world for over 3 months.  

Four hippos that Pablo Escobar brought to his private ranch in Columbia in the 1980's have reproduced into over 80 hippos today. They threaten the safety of the local biodiversity as well as the livelihood of people in affected areas. Local authorities at the CORNARE regional environmental agency are trying to determine whether to kill, castrate, or relocate these hippos, and figuring out the logistics of doing so.  

Chris Grider of Eddy, Texas was arrested by FBI agents in Austin for his involvement in the Capitol Riots from earlier this month. His charges are willfully injuring or committing any depredation against any government property or contracts, knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol Grounds.  

President Biden is reversing the Trump ban on transgender individuals from serving in the military. He believes that gender identity should not be a bar on military service.

Under the new Biden administration we already have a controversial decision regarding fracking and the cancelation of the construction of the new Keystone Pipeline that was set to transport 830,000 barrels of crude oil per day from Alberta, Canada to Nebraska. This decision eliminated 11,000 jobs and $2 billion in wages. Biden said in an interview with Anderson Cooper in September of last year, "Fracking has to continue because it needs a transition." 

Chuck Schumer made headlines for mistakenly saying "erection" instead of "insurrection" on the senate floor during a statement to the senate about the trial that will take place to decide whether Trump incited the riots at Capitol Hill. 

Is "mask-slipping" the new "manspreading"? Some social media users want you to think that it is. A picture of Bill Clinton with his nose out of his mask at the inauguration, along with many others has frustrated many people and started the new term, "mask-slipping."
