Words, information, healthy critical thinking, and ideas have power. When properly communicated, ideas can lead to the hearty exchange of thought when those involved remain humble and teachable, and can lead to incredible solutions for society, even changing the trajectory of nations.
The power of ideas and saying them is precisely one of the reasons why freedom of conscience, thought, belief, opinion, and expression, including freedom of the press and media are protected, fundamental rights in Canada. Those who crafted the Charter knew their importance to us all.
Someone else who knows the importance of speech and ideas is my guest today, Jonathon Van Maren.
Jonathon Van Maren has dedicated his professional life to the healthy exchange of thought in the public square. His writings have been translated into more than 6 languages, and featured not only in a long list of publications including the National Post, the Jewish Independent, and the Hamilton Spectator, but also on television through CTV, Global News, the CBC, and over 20 radio stations nationwide. Jonathon regularly speaks on a variety of social issues at universities, high schools, and churches across Canada and even around the world. Finally, he’s the author of The Culture War, Seeing Is Believing: Why Our Culture Must Face The Victims Of Abortion, and more.
It is an honour and a joy to have him with us this week. Thanks for joining and please share.

One of the things that many of our viewers factored into their voting decision for the recent federal election was the part of the Liberal policy platform which stated that, if elected, they would defund crisis pregnancy centres (also known as Pregnancy Care Centres).
Crisis Pregnancy Centres provide vital support such as free baby supplies, emotional support, and in some cases, even provide safe housing for women in need. The Liberal policy announcement was a bold move in what has become an ongoing conversation about how much power ruling political parties should have to impose their ideologies on faith-based organizations, whether churches, mosques, synagogues, or community service organizations such as pregnancy care centres.
In light of this, we are re-airing an insightful interview with Rev. John Pellowe from the Canadian Centre for Christian Charities with our guest host Jodie Jenkins. In this interview, Rev. Pellowe unpacks some of the research around the benefits that charities bring to communities nationwide.
Thank you for joining us and please share with your friends!

Here in Canada there have been so many issues that have stirred up a lot of division and hostility, and if feels like we’ve entered into this era where there is so much animosity that people are having to navigate, whether it’s the vaccine passport, the residential schools issue, churches being burned down, or this current federal election.

Bill Johnson joins me today to discuss how we can keep our hearts right in these precarious times.
Whether vaccine passports, politics, racism, abortion or something else, we are navigating divisive times as Canadians. Best selling author, Bill Johnson, joins us to give wisdom for our times.

Recently I had the tremendous honour to interview Bill Johnson (best selling author, speaker & senior leader at Bethel Redding).
Bill Johnson, and the Bethel Redding movement has impacted the world through their worship, mentorship programs and books.
In this interview Bill gives us wisdom to navigate the times we are finding ourselves in.
We talked about:
* general wisdom for the times
* the role of believers in turning nations around
* Christians and political engagement
* a special word for Sr. leaders
* wisdom for next generation leaders
* pandemic management
* the main piece of advice he would give at this time (last question of interview)
I have already watched this interview a few times over myself and have gotten different insights each time. I pray this conversation blesses you as much as it did I. Please consider sharing this video if you appreciate the content.

We're continuing to talk about this current federal election. For this week’s show I'm joined by Rob Parker from the National House of Prayer to discuss how to pray for Canada during this election.
In this interview we also talk about the amazing history of the National House of Prayer in Canada, some powerful testimonies of answers to prayer on the national level, and a current federal election prayer initiative that is underway.
Elections, and this one particularly, are such an important time to cover our nation in prayer.
We hope you can join us.

Perhaps one of the biggest, but most under reported, stories of the summer has been the string of vandalism and serious arsonist attacks on churches of various denominations across Canada.
The wave of attacks began after the story of 215 unmarked graves near the site of a former residential school in Kamloops, BC hit national media and then a similar report of 751 unmarked graves were reported at the Marieval Indian Residential School operated by the Roman Catholic Church in Saskatchewan.
Initially the arsonist and vandalism attacks appeared to be isolated to churches on reserves but as the summer progressed, off reserve churches were targeted with an historic St. Jean Baptiste Church in Morinville, AB, which was a centre point to the community, being burned to the ground in the early morning on June 13th. On July 19th St. George Coptic Orthodox Church in Surrey BC, a church with no direct connection to the residential school history, was also targeted and burned to the ground.
To date, it is reported that 21 churches spanning from BC to Nova Scotia have been the target of arson and dozens more than that vandalized in some way.
Joining me today to shed some light on how all of this has been impacting those targeted by the arsonist attacks is Steven Faltas, a deacon from St. George Coptic Orthodox Church who was one of the first members of the congregation to be called when the fire broke out. Joining him is BC Member of Parliament Tamara Janzen who personally attended a vigil that the church held after the burning occurred.
I appreciate you joining us for this very important conversation. Let’s get to it.

In April, the Trudeau government revealed a three hundred and fifty billion dollar deficit in the 2021 budget. The government announced one hundred billion in new spending but no plan for a balanced budget. Canada’s federal debt recently surpassed one trillion dollars as a result of pandemic spending.
According to recent Parliamentary Budget Officer data, it is predicted that on this track, the federal budget will not be balanced until 2070, when today’s minors are reaching retirement age.
This all means that the next generation in Canada could live their entire lives carrying this debt burden — likely equating to higher taxes and less social services.
The federal debt has more than doubled in the last decade.
The federal debt portion of every Canadian is currently around thirty thousand dollars.
This is not including provincial debts which in most provinces is pushing twenty thousand.
In Ontario, that number is close to $30,000 in addition to the federal portion (putting the total near $60,000 for each resident of Ontario).
Joining me this week to discuss the status of our nation’s economy, and implications of the 2070 projection, is Federal Director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation and former law and economics professor Art Lightstone. Thanks for joining us.

Want to change Canada when it comes to an important issue like human trafficking or indigenous reconciliation? -Consider starting locally right where you are. That is what Councillor Grace Simon did when she put forward a motion to dis-allow massage parlours in New Market and then turned around and hosted an indigenous reconciliation event on Canada Day.
She joins us this week to share her inspiring story of how we can all build a better Canada for the future by starting right in our neighbourhoods.
Also joining her is Carmen Jones, one of the speakers at the Canada Day event who had a powerful impact on those who attended.
Thank you for your love for Canada and thank you for joining with us.
