We’ll explore this morning in this densely packed passage what the ministry of the Holy Spirit is. What we learn in part is that The return of Jesus to the Father is to the supreme blessing and advantage of His disciples, for He sends the Holy Spirit who indwells them and makes following Him truly possible.

Quite simply, friends, this is who Jesus is and what He claims. Our lesson is simple but deep and profound this morning: Jesus is the only way that a person is brought into the family of God and into personal fellowship with God.

Friends, above all else, above being a parent or a spouse or a student, or an airman, or a retiree or anything, above all else, Jesus is to be our identity and our purpose for living. John shows us here that In love, through His servanthood, Jesus makes us into new people and gives our lives new purpose and character.

The cross will be the beginning of His exaltation. Jesus’ victory over sin, death, and evil hinges upon His sacrificial death and, therefore, the cross becomes the central way that He is glorified and known.

What I want to do this morning is show you how you should view your work and engage in it with a Kingdom-focus. Whether you’re a student, someone who works full-time vocationally outside the home, someone who is a homemaker, a retiree, an artist, a teacher, whatever, whoever you are this is what God made your work to be; therefore, this is what you need to do.

Jesus is the Crucified King. Thus, what John will show us in chapter 12 is that Jesus’ victory over sin, death, and evil hinges upon His sacrificial death and, therefore, the cross becomes the central way that He is glorified and known.

You see, friends, John 11 shows us the arrival of the Son, the anointed King who has come to make the nations and the ends of the earth His. How will we respond? For as we see this morning, The mission of God is one of destroying the evil of sin which plagues this world. Thus, according to the will of the Father, through the person and work of Jesus, new creation is begun (and will one day be completed)!

John 11:1-16, It’s an incredibly simple passage and yet so profound and so deep I imagine we will all really struggle to embrace what it teaches, for what John shows us this morning is that In His love God seeks our greatest good, which is His glory, and calls for our total trust in Him.

Jesus is the true and better King. As God and as perfect Man, Jesus is the only way by which God’s promised work of redemption and new creation is accomplished. Thus, only in responding in faith and surrender to Jesus can one receive this salvation.
