  • Episode 106: The Most Unexpected Encounter with My Deceased Grandmother [Memoir Excerpts]

Excavating through old writings, I discovered a piece titled "Reiki and the Reappearance of My Grandmother," a vivid recounting of the end of a relationship, my struggle with an eating disorder, and my decision to prioritize my well-being. There's a narrative power in our personal histories, the lessons we've learned, and the paths we've walked.

Grandmothers have a special place in our hearts. Mine had a profound impact on my life. As our roles reversed in her later years, I cherished our walks and the wisdom she imparted. After her passing, I discovered an old video that confirmed her love for me, a moment of comfort amidst overwhelming emotions.

In an emotionally charged session with a medium, I connected with my deceased grandmother. The experience filled me with a mix of longing and reassurance. To this day, I hold on to her words — she is always with me. The spiritual encounter has become an integral part of my memoir.

Today's episode features memoir excerpts about my grandmother, food, and love. Despite the joy of Saturday morning pancakes at McDonald's with my dad to the simplicity of our home-cooked meals, my relationship with food became more complicated, shaped by cultural and personal factors. Looking back, I see the evolution of my understanding and relationship with food.

Tune in today for imperfect excerpts of my book that people have been saying they simply want more, and more, and more of!

  • Episode 102: The Greatest Lessons Learned from Embracing Mistakes [Mindfulness]

🎧 Hey there! It's your host, Judy Tsuei.  In this episode, I reflect on my daughter's journey in learning to play soccer and how she's embracing mistakes as learning opportunities. 🏃‍♀️⚽️

Let's explore the power of a growth mindset together! In my journey since 2018, I've faced divorce, debt, and uncertainty. But today, I'm in a healthy relationship, debt-free, and running a thriving agency. I'm physically and mentally stronger, and I owe it all to being authentic and true to myself.

The best part about this life I’m creating is that every day, I get a step closer to everything I want to be doing & being.

    Me in 2018:
    - Realizing I needed to get divorced
    - Loads of debt
    - Alone + scared
    - Living internationally + needed to set up a life from scratch in the States
    - Few career prospects
    - Worried about what the future would hold for my daughter
    - Didn’t want people to hug me bc my body was so frail, it would throw out my neck and shoulders

    Me in 2023:
    - Happily in a healthy relationship
    - Debt-free + savings/investments replenished
    - Epic community of surf mamas
    - Own a thriving branding & content marketing agency with a team of writers + designers — and I’m 1 of 50 women entrepreneurs around the country selected as a 2023 @toryburchfoundation Fellow!
    - My daughter is thriving
    - Physically + mentally stronger than I’ve ever been in my life!

These days, I’m leaning more into coaching highly sensitive, creative, driven women seeking to make an impact on the world.

In the past few weeks, I’ve led multiple clients through a powerful Mental & Emotional Release®️ that have created profound results.

Here’s what one client shared with me:

“I experienced a powerful Breakthrough Session with Judy! Judy held amazing space for me without judgement, so I could share openly and get help for some compulsive behaviors I have struggled with my entire life.

Not only did Judy help me uncover a core belief that was creating my issues, which in itself was really powerful. Judy also supported me in releasing subconscious beliefs and negative emotions that weren’t serving me.

Since my session with Judy, I have had so much more love and compassion for myself and I have been successful in changing my compulsive behaviors!

Judy is an amazing coach and practitioner. Thank you Judy!” ~Astra F.

  • Episode 99: How Asian American women can take ownership of their finances with Mary Li.

🎧 Want to dive deep into the relationship between money and mindset? Join me as I chat with Money Mindset Coach, Mary Li.

💔 If you give away your financial power, explore the societal pressure on women to break the taboo around money. Embrace your agency and control over your finances because you are capable of so much more than you think! 💪🏼

💰 Don't miss out on this eye-opening conversation on the Saving Face podcast! If you're constantly comparing yourself to others when it comes to money, let's explore the detrimental effects of this mindset and discover how to align our core values with our earning and spending habits.

    Here's what we cover:

    1. The Money Mindset Journey: Mary Li and Judy Tsuei both grew up in immigrant families where money was scarce, leading to a fear and scarcity mindset around finances. We discuss how this fear and guilt still affect us as adults, even when we have enough to meet our basic needs.
    2. Awareness is Key: Mary emphasizes the need to observe our thoughts and beliefs about money without judgment. She suggests keeping a daily journal to track these thoughts and examine the underlying beliefs that drive our behaviors.
    3. Aligning Values with Actions: We agree that rewriting our money stories and aligning our actions with our core values can lead to a healthier and more fulfilling relationship with money.
    4. Gratitude and Honesty: We encourage listeners to appreciate the things they may be taking for granted and to be honest with ourselves about the way we make and spend money in accordance with our core values.
    5. Financial Empowerment for Women: We highlight the need for women to take ownership of their finances and break the taboo around money. Mary reveals that many successful women rely on their husbands to manage their money, which she attributes to societal conditioning and a lack of confidence in managing finances.
    6. Teaching Children about Money: It's vital to teach children about money and financial responsibility. Mary shared how she uses a finance box with her daughter to teach her about different financial choices and their consequences.
    7. Marriage and Money: We discuss how money differences can be a major cause of divorce and the importance of understanding one's own money values and beliefs before entering into a committed relationship.
    8. Self-worth and Self-reflection: Mary emphasizes that our relationship with ourselves is the foundation for all other relationships, including our relationship with money.

  • Episode 98: Aim for Contentment — Not Happiness: A Guided Meditation Practice with Judy Tsuei

Embracing the shift from happiness to contentment has been a profound journey. Thanks to therapy, I've discovered the power of being fully present in moments of joy and gathered them as memories to buoy me when times get tough — this is how we cultivate hope.

Remember, there's no shame in seeking the help we need.

In this episode, I'll explain more about what Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is and how becoming a Master Practitioner of the Mental Emotional Release technique, NLP, and hypnotherapy has transformed my life.

You'll discover how the concept of 'away motivation' versus 'toward motivation' in neuro linguistic programming is a game-changer.

As an entrepreneur and woman of color, I know how vital it is to take up space and celebrate our achievements, to relish our moments of happiness, to give ourselves permission to play and dream, and to envision our success vividly.

The episode finishes with a simple mindfulness practice to encourage you to collect moments of happiness to build your contentment, too.

    Highlights include:

  • Episode 97: The Ultimate Guide to Self-Promotion for Asian American Authors with Stephanie Moon

As an Asian American, Judy Tsuei has often grappled with the concept of self-promotion. Cultural expectations, coupled with the generational trauma that has impacted many Asian cultures, can make it difficult for individuals to shine and be noticed. Traditional publishing houses often emphasize the need for authors to have a platform already or to do the work themselves to get noticed.

In today's podcast episode, Judy interviews Stephanie Moon, who has an extensive background in publishing as a Marketing Strategist for publishers and authors. She has worked with various publishing houses big and small, including Chronicle Books, Grant HarperCollins. Stephanie loves working with authors and helping them find their voice and promote themselves authentically. She believes that in a saturated market, the only way to stand out is by being yourself and telling your unique stories.

Stephanie also emphasizes the importance of authors being able to promote their books, as it significantly contributes to their success. However, throughout her career, she has noticed that Asian authors — especially women — tend to feel shy about self-promotion. This is unfortunate because writing a book is a years-long process that requires dedication and hard work. Stephanie addresses imposter syndrome and more in order for you to become the published author you've dreamed of!
