Hebrews 1 offers us one of the most power-packed pictures of Jesus: He is the exact imprint of the glory of God, how God speaks, Creator, Way Maker, seated at the right hand of God and so much more. The work is done. He has become our Way Maker.

This podcast wraps up the Stories from the Wilderness Bible study. Erin Warren teaches through Joshua 3-5 as the Israelites cross the Jordan River and step into the land God promised to give them. They do so with trust and find God continues to go before them. But none of this was for them. The miracles, the provision, the journey: it was all for God to show them His character. It was so that they would know who their God is. It was so that the whole world, all the peoples, us included, would know who God is. And in the end, we see that the God of the Wilderness is the same God in the Promised Land.

In this podcast, Erin Warren teaches through Joshua 1-2. Moses has died and the Israelites are on the edge of the Promised Land. God calls Joshua up and tells him that the time has come for him to lead the people over the Jordan River and into the land God promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. God gives Joshua a charge to be strong and courageous and to remember and obey His Word, but He doesn't expect him (or us) to do this on our own. It's His presence with us that makes it possible for us to live out our faith in obedience. And then we get to see this marriage of faith and obedience lived out practically through the life of a woman named Rahab.

In this podcast, Erin Warren teaches through Deuteronomy 31, 32, & 34. Moses and the Israelites have reached the doorstep of the Promised Land. For forty years, they wandered, but now they are preparing to enter the land promised to their forefathers. But because of his sin, Moses will not be the one leading them. In these chapters, Moses is giving his final instructions. He establishes and esteems Joshua as their new leader. He blesses the tribes and gives them a song to remember to turn back to God. But more than anything, he teaches them the importance of knowing and obeying God's Word. For it is no empty word for you, but your very life. And in the end, God graciously takes Moses up the mountain one final time to meet with Him. He shows Moses the land he will not enter and buries him there. There has never been a man like Moses, but there was a great One coming. His name is Jesus and He was counter worthy of more glory than even Moses. Jesus, our true Savior and Intercessor.

In this podcast, Erin Warren teaches Numbers 20-21. Still grumbling over the lack of water, God gives Moses and Aaron specific instructions on how to bring water from a rock at Meribah. Perhaps in frustration, perhaps in a moment of weakness, Moses makes a grave mistake and takes glory for himself instead giving glory to God. And like the generation before who died in the wilderness, Moses and Aaron too will die in the wilderness. Later, the people grumble over the lack of "good" food and God sends fiery serpents. God again provides a way of salvation after their repentance, a bronze serpent lifted up on a pole.

This is about the time I start getting tempted to say "yeah, yeah. They grumble. God punishes. They repent. God relents." Same story. Different Day. But these stories reveal something much greater: hearts that go astray and do not know His Ways. The questions raised this week are one that should pierce our own hearts. Where am I taking glory from God? What does He provide that I call worthless? Am I keeping Him n the proper high and lifted up place in my life?

Both of these stories point us to a perfect Deliverer: the Son who will one day perfectly usher from the wilderness of earth into Heaven... one who will be lifted up and all who look on Him (and choose belief) will find not life for now, but life for eternity.

In this podcast, Erin Warren teaches through Numbers 13-14. I wish they were happy chapters with a happy ending and a pretty little bow. But these chapters are sad. Moses sends 12 spies into the Promised Land. When they return, ten give a mixed report: the land is good, but the people are too strong. And on the doorstep of the Promised Land, the people lock eyes on their enemy instead of their God. The consequences are great. This week, begs us to look at our own lives and ask where we are allowing unbelief to cloud our perception of God, His Word, and His unchanging character.

In this podcast, Erin Warren teaches through Exodus 33-34 & Numbers 9.  After breaking the covenant, the people of Israel mourn the consequences of their sin: God will no longer go with them. But Moses, intercedes on behalf of the people. These passages may be the most important in all Scripture when it comes to God's character because this is where God reveals His Name and His character with His own words and shows His merciful response to our sin. Despite our unfaithfulness, God remains faithful and true, and in His grace, cuts a new covenant with the people of Israel.

AW Tozer said What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us. This week beckons us to respond in humility, worship, and confession at the revelation of His Name and His character.

In this podcast, Erin H. Warren teaches through Exodus 19. 20, & 32. As Moses and the people near Mt. Sinai, God tells them He is going to come down. He gives them a command to consecrate themselves and boundaries for their protection. Yahweh comes to make a covenant with His people and gives them ten words that will define their relationship. But the people are afraid and pull back in fear. But Moses, with reverence and a "fear of God", draws near to God up the mountain.

While Moses meets with God, the people grow impatient, asking Aaron for a new god, a new mediator. Aaron fashions a golden calf and allows the people to break loose. Moses, upset over the quickly broken covenant, shattered the stone tablets and exacts justice for the sins of the people. The truth is the law was never meant to save us. No one can perfectly uphold the law. Instead it merely reveals our sinfulness. But this marriage ceremony between God and His people was a shadow of the new and better covenant God would make one day, through His Son, Jesus Christ. Because of His interceding on our behalf and His ability to perfectly uphold the law, thus becoming the spotless sacrificial Lamb, we can draw near to God.

In this podcast, Erin Warren teaches through Exodus 16-17 (The Manna, Water from the Rock, Defeat of the Amalekites). The miraculous bread from heaven was not only provision to fill their empty stomachs, but a picture that points us to the True Bread that would one day come from Heaven, not for our earthly sustainment, but our eternal satisfaction. This passage also establishes the Sabbath, a day of rest that would set apart His people from world and an act of trust in God's character. As the Israelites come to Rephidim, they are once again thirsty and God meets their need on the Mountain of God despite their testing of Him. As Moses strikes the rock, water flows and reminds the people that their God has not left them. While there, the Amalekites (descendants of Esau) come to fight. Joshua and the Israelites prevail as long as Moses' arms are raised. With the help of Aaron and Hur, his arms remain raised bringing victory to the Israelites. There Moses builds an altar and calls God Yahweh Nissi - the Lord is my Banner, bringing hope, victory and refuge for His people.
