Why study this ancient tent? What does knowing the Tabernacle have to do with our faith on this side of the cross? Everything. From Creation, God's desire was to dwell in the midst of His people. In the middle of the wilderness, God gives Moses a way for God Himself to dwell in the midst of His people: the Tabernacle. This tent is not merely ritual or history or good information. It's essential to understanding our salvation. Our detailed and deliberate God gave us the Tabernacle because one day, He would give us Jesus.
In this teaching, Erin Warren discussing the fourth furnishing in the Tabernacle: The Table of Shewbread (or the Bread of the Presence). Like the other furnishings, we see this piece has a practical purpose: it fed the priests. But the spiritual representation takes us much deeper. As we see repeated words of bread, Sabbath, covenant and pull that thread through the whole of Scripture, we find that Christ's broken body for us does more than forgive our sins. Jesus is the Bread of Life and through Him, we are invited into a relationship with our God, one that gives us a Better Bread, a Better Covenant, a Better Communion, a Better Rest.
