As we enter the season of Advent, anticipating and celebrating the coming of Jesus, we look at Psalm 80 and hope. This Psalmist is facing great difficulty but turns toward who God is and what God has done in the past for hope in the present and future. The Good News that we discover here is that the final word has not been spoken when death and pain seem to be claiming victory but it has been spoken from the empty tomb. The only hope we have is in the God who has already spoken the final word of salvation and restoration.

What do we do when we know God exists but we don't feel or experience God? What happens when our plans don't go as we want them to or we simply feel like we don't have anything else to give or anything to say to God? Psalms 42 and 43 address such times and offer hope for how to approach God and experience God's presence again.

In this sermon, we explore Psalm 31 and how the Psalmist works through a difficult time when everyone turns against him. We look at how Jeremiah and Jesus both relate to this Psalm to better understand what the Psalmist might have been experiencing and how they responded. Ultimately, we key in on verse 5 where the Psalmist proclaims that they are committing their "ruach" into the hands of God. We look at how this frees us from being bound by results, what others think about us, and from having to have all the answers.

In this sermon, we look at Psalm 73 and the dangers of envy and how the Psalmist dealt with their envy and the fact that so many people around them seemed to have it all.

This image is beautiful and comforting. The question is, what do we do with a Psalm like this when things go badly? What happens when, as Psalm 137 says, we hang up our harps and can't sing glorious songs about Zion and the mountains around Jerusalem?
