In this Psalm, we get important insight into the heart of God. The Psalm gives us a picture of a divine council that God presides over. God judges other heavenly beings for not upholding justice or caring for the poor and oppressed. The last line of the Psalm then asks God to rise and essentially come do the same thing on earth! Throughout Scripture, God always hears the cry of the oppressed and makes justice and caring for those on the bottom one of the central issues of the entire creation. This Psalm reveals God's heart for the poor and for upholding justice and therefore by exention reveals what should be central in our hearts as well.

In this sermon, we explore Psalm 84 and the journey to God. It's a good journey full of hope and desire, but it's a journey that is always going to take us to and through difficult times and places. Because of these trials, it's easy to stay home, turn around when difficulty hits, or simply settle for something less than what we are created for. We give up on hope and our deepest desires because they are too painful sometimes. Psalm 84 helps us explore true hope, how to hold on to it, why it's worth continuing through the valleys, and what it means to continue walking toward God's beautiful, provoking, and glorious Kingdom.

In this sermon, we dive into Psalm 32. We explore guilt and shame and the roles these play in our lives. The Psamist expresses a physical pain of wasting away when they tried to do life on their own, hiding their sin from God. The Good News of the Psalm is the freedom the Psalmist experiences when God lifts the burden of their sin and frees them to be who God created them to be. It's easy to live with a sense of shame about who we are, even after God forgives us. We explore where this deeper shame comes from and how we can be free from it's grasp.

In this sermon, we look at Psalm 25 and the difference between being a follower of Jesus and a fan of Jesus. We look at how to be a fan of all sorts of people and things and how easy it is to become a fan of Jesus, all the while believing we are a follower. We look at the invitation to be a follower of Jesus and what this means for our lives today.

From Genesis and our calling as co-creators to the early Church and how they made decisions, we explore the invitation to come alongside God in the continual creation and renewal of the world. We look at the many meanings of this statement that there is no god, both from a believers' and nonbelievers' point of view, how we can struggle with this issue even when we follow Jesus, and the important implications that this has for both the world. We look at the history of worship from the beginning of time, how the God of the Bible is different from the other gods of history, and the many ways we worship both God and false gods today.

In this sermon on Psalm 133, we look at the goodness and blessing that comes when God's people live united as one body. We explore why this is so important and how we might go about living as the body Jesus died for and prayed for.

In Psalm 131, the psalmist expresses a profound sense of calmness before God. This can seem like an near-impossible task in today's world, but the Psalm gives us some great guidance as to how we can find that same sense of calm in our lives today no matter what we are facing or what we are going through.

In Psalm 74, the Psalmist describes a situation of horrific destruction and pain. The temple had been destoryed and the people feel completely abandoned. What does one do when all seems lost and there appears to be no way out? How do we engage God in such a moment? The Psalmist turns to memory. He remembers God's actions throughout history from creation all the way through God's relationship with Israel. This memory is the foundation of the Psalmist's faith and the answer to how to move forward. We will all find ourselves in such moments in life and it's the stories that have shaped our memory that will be our guide in how to respond.

In this sermon, we dive into Psalm 118 and the many ways it's used throughout the New Testament. It turns out that throughout the Bible, those who speak and live truth are often not received very well. The question is, how do we respond when we receive a less than warm response when we live and share the truth?
