In this sermon, we begin a new series going through the book of Psalms. Psalm 1 is sort of a doorway into this amazing book of poetry. It reveals the two ways a person can approach life. We can either meditate on things that are ultimately unhelpful or we are invited to meditate on and delight in God's Word. We discuss what it means to meditate on something, what these two paths look like, and the Good News of what it looks like to mediate on God's Word.

In this Christmas Eve service, we take a look at the birthplace of Jesus in Luke 2 and what this setting might have to say about our own invitation to Jesus in our lives. It turns out that Jesus was born in the living room of someone's home because the guest room was full. In another passage, Jesus tells some Christians that He is standing at their door knocking and would like to come in and eat with them. To accept such a request can be both scary and exciting. It requires vulnerability but can lead to blessing How do we respond to such a request by Jesus in our own lives?

In this sermon, we look at the central characters in the Christmas story in the book of Luke. We look at who they were, what they did, and what their lives were like. Ultimately, they were all normal people with nothing particularly extraordinary about them. When God broke in, however, and they all responded to the messages God spoke to them through angels, some amazing things happen. We look at what implications this might have for our own lives as we move through the everday stuff we all go through and deal with.

In this sermon, we look at the good news of great joy that is declared to the shepherds in Luke and why this good news was so different than the good news of the day. We are so frequently surrounded by bad news that it becomes easy to look for good news in the wrong places and end up with what the ancient world called bread and circuses. The good news God offers, however, is present, real, and full of true hope. It's something we are invited to simply receive and can make all the difference in the world.

In this sermon, we compare the response of the wise men, or astrologers, from the East with the religious leaders in Jerusalem. We look at why the religious leaders didn't want to accept Jesus, espeically their fear of losing power and comfort, as the Gentile outsiders did and what that means for our own lives today. If we are too comfortable in our lives and faith, we are probably missing something.

Throughout history there have been many people and things claiming to be the newest and best savior. The same was true in the first century when Jesus was alive and the church was just beginning. From Herod and Caesar to Nero and others, people had a lot of choices when it came to who to trust to help fix the world. In the 21st century we may not have Nero or Herod but we still have plenty of options for who or what to trust with our hopes and dreams, our fears and difficulties. In this sermon, we dive into the story of Jesus, the true Savior, what makes Jesus different, and how Jesus story relates to and ultimately surpasses other salvation stories of His day and ours.

In this sermon, we look at Jesus' genealogy in Matthew chapter 1. It turns out that Jesus comes from quite an interesting background that isn't what one would probably expect. Matthew shares Jesus ancestry in a particular way making a point to highlight some of the more interesting people in Jesus family. Ultimately, Matthew has some really good news for all of us when it comes to where we have come from and what that means for where we are going.

In this sermon, we continue our "To the Manger" series by looking at Mary's song of praise in Luke 1. We discuss how the song comes from a place of gratitude and how Mary could have cultivated such gratitude. Study after study has shown just how important gratitude is not only for our mental health, but even our physical and relational health. As we move toward the coming of our savior on Christmas we explore what it might look like to cultivate the type of gratitude Mary displayed and implications of such a lifestyle.
