In this message, we're taking a look at the most important event in world history. More than the splitting of the atom, more than the discovery that the earth revolves around the sun, more than the discovery of the New World - this singular event literally split the calendar in two. We measure time by this event. This message is given 2,023 years after this thing happened. So what is it?! What could be so significant that everything we know about history, our calendars, and time is centered around it? It was the moment when God became human, stepped into history, and was born as a baby boy in a little town called Bethlehem.

For our last message of 2023, we dive into the classic Christmas story in Luke 2. In it, we see that as young adults, we have every reason to have a "Merry Christmas" this year. The birth of Jesus Christ teaches us that we never have to look elsewhere for joy, peace, or purpose, because we can find it all in Him.

What would you do if you knew Jesus would return next month or next year? If you knew the end of the world was near, would you live any differently?

While we don't know when Jesus will return, we do know that He will. And rather than trying to cross everything off our individual bucket lists and meet our internal wishes and desires, the expectation of Jesus' return should drive us outward towards others. Rather than pull us inward towards isolation, it should pull us outward towards community.

In this message, we look at this passage in Hebrews that teaches us that as we look at our world today and know Jesus said He's "coming soon," it's not as if we need each other less in the church, we need each other more. And because of what God has done for us in the past, and based on our hope for the future, that shapes how we should live in the present - in community with other believers.

This week, we're wrapping up our series called, "I AM: Jesus in His Own Words", looking at the 7 "I AM" statements of Jesus in the Gospel of John. This is Jesus himself, using 7 word pictures to describe who he was and what he came to do. He is "introducing" himself to us in his own words, and at the same time, claiming to be God in the flesh. This week, we take a look at the last "I AM" statement, when Jesus uses the metaphor of a vine, branches, and fruit to teach us about what living in relationship with him looks like. As a branch draws nutrients and life from the vine and produces fruit, so we are to stay connected to Jesus and bear spiritual fruit that matters for eternity.

When Jesus proclaims, “I Am the Resurrection and the Life,” the glory of God is on full display. Jesus is the source of resurrection and the source of life. In this message, we walked through John 11, watching Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead, proving He has power to bring someone from death to life. Similarly, because Jesus is the resurrection and the life, you and I can be resurrected from our spiritual death and be brought to a new life in Jesus.
