Feminist Sleeper Cell

Let’s all collectively breathe deeply and donate $750 toward abortion access, after the truly terrifying display of fascism and general white man pandering on the presidential debate stage this week. Not only are we more informed on Europe’s “forest cities” (wtf?!?) but we also all saw the historic moment that a sitting US president declined to disavow white supremacy. As our guest Lara Chelian of Northland Family Planning explains, these very same domestic terrorists have shown up throughout her life as a second-generation abortion provider, threatening the life and autonomy of patients and her family.

This is a hell of a week, and we brought in some reinforcements to help us dissect the news. Evan Hurst of Wonkette joins the Feminist Sleeper Cell in disgust over the Grand Jury’s findings on the murder of Breonna Taylor and our sorrow in the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. We aren’t surprised at the hypocrisy and slime exuding from the GOP, and we did some homework on who they will be trying to slip into the 9th seat on the US Supreme Court.

We are also hopeful that unfettered abortion access will prevail, and Colorado’s 115 will be voted down in November. And finally, we are cheering for the $225,000 bill the city has to foot for trying to unfairly push out a new clinic.

M&M prove yet again that we don’t melt in the hands of Ted Cruz, even though we are hot with rage over his (and the right’s) attempts at dismantling abortion pill care. In summary of today’s topics: the abortion pill is SAFE; hell yes for representational abortion story telling; and we cannot forget that COVID is harming reproductive care south of us, too. We add some books to our reading list and are hoping to return for an in-depth discussion of the Turnaway Study in the future! #AbortionIsHealthcare

Our stint at Netroots Nation 2020 continues, this time with even more bad abortion news. While Arkansas is busy trying to make doctors call the police on pregnant minors (we cannot overemphasize how cruel this is), stop D&E procedures (the standard medical process for a second trimester termination), and allow a patient’s family to meddle in their abortion decision, WE NOW ALSO NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THE POST OFFICE. Plus, joining us is a trio of amazing activists, clinic professionals, and legislative experts to talk about the toxicity of the Hyde and Helms Amendments and how the US must reverse rules like these to truly give folks globally a chance at equitable abortion care.

We have a special treat for our listeners today! The three-headed whore Hydra has landed at Netroots Nation 2020, virtually hosting a daily morning dump of garbage repro news! We open this segment pleading Ben Shapiro to leave our wet ass pussies alone and assessing the Biden-Harris ticket on abortion and intersectional issues (Kamala...trans lives matter...full stop). We are demanding the return of federal PPP funds given to fake clinics during COVID, while REAL clinics are economically struggling. And we are so excited to talk with Diana Parker, badass Executive Director of Midwest Access Coalition, a practical support abortion organization assisting with lodging, travel support and logistics, childcare, and other final barrierss that often make abortion unattainable.
