Currently, there are faceless entities outside of our classrooms who have no knowledge of our individual students’ lives, needs, or interests; who know nothing of individual teaching situations; who seem to have little knowledge of research and research-based theories related to human learning; and who think education can be “improved” simply by dumping more academic standards on teachers and students. “Just a few more standards," they say to themselves, "and we’ll really make learning happen!” We need fewer academic standards, not more.
