    ALED JENKINS IN CONVERSATION WITH EMYR YOUNG

    Aled Jenkins studied Photography and Film at Plymouth College of Art and Design before working as a photojournalist, specialising in covering conflicts around the world.

    In 1992, he returned to Wales to train as a television cameraman and has been freelance since 1997 - in demand both in the UK and abroad as a skilled cameraman and documentary film maker. Aled is the recipient of the 2016 BAFTA Cymru award for Best Factual Photography for his work on the BBC series 'Patagonia'. Ffoton talks with Aled about his career and his ongoing love of stills photography.

  • Marc Vallée
    MARC VALLÉE IN CONVERSATION WITH EMYR YOUNG
    CARDIFF, SOUTH WALES. MAY 2016

    Starting his photography career in gritty photojournalism, Marc Vallée is a London-based documentary photographer whose work explores the tension between public and private space in the context of contemporary youth culture.

    His sought-after limited edition Zines are held in the library collections of Tate Britain in London and The Museum of Modern Art in New York.

    Ffoton invited Marc to Cardiff in May 2016 as one of our Ffoton Talks guest speakers and we grabbed the opportunity to sit down with him before the public event to dig deeper into his career in photography.

    Huw Jones is a busy man. Ffoton spent some time with Huw at his impressive studio just off the M4 in Newport South Wales.

    His roster of clients include many national and international companies who require levels of service and image quality of the highest order. Working with a talented team of chefs and retouchers, in a sector of the industry where attention to detail is paramount, Huw and his colleagues have earned a reputation of providing a comprehensive total service which is second to none.

    Ffoton spoke with Huw and his team on the demanding niche of professional food photography and the skills and resources required to deliver consistently high-standard images. In this second of 2 parts, we talk with Huw about his start in photography; move into and approach to video; and advice for aspiring food photographers.

  • Marian Delyth
    MARIAN DELYTH IN CONVERSATION WITH EMYR YOUNG.
    BLAENPLWYF, CEREDIGION. JUNE 2015

    Marian Delyth has worked as a freelance photographer and graphic designer from her studio in Blaenplwyf since 1982.

    She studied graphic design at Newport College of Art where she also took an active interest in photography - sitting in on guest talks arranged by David Hurn for Documentary Photography students. Marian was one of the small but very active group of photographers whose efforts led to the formation of the original Ffotogallery in Cardiff. After college, she worked in an advertising studio before returning to teach in Coleg Ceredigion.

    Her work can be seen in numerous publications and she has won numerous awards for her work. In 2000 photography became a priority and her time is shared between photographic commissions, developing personal projects, conducting workshops and occasional teaching.

  • Nigel Pugh
    NIGEL PUGH IN CONVERSATION WITH BRIAN CARROLL.

    Based in Cardiff, Nigel Pugh is a Social and Environmental photographer with a passion for documenting and promoting the relationship between people and the ecology of the natural environment in and around their local communities.

    His event and documentary photography records the tensions between ordinary citizens, activists, State and business in protecting an ongoing symbiotic relationship with nature and the promotion of a more socially equitable society. In 2015 he staged his first photography exhibition YOUR NATURE - ‘TO PRESERVE AN EPHEMERAL STATE’ in Cardiff with a percentage of print sales going to Friends of the Earth Cyrmu and Wildlife Trusts Wales.

    Michael Jackson is a Visual Artist and talented analogue photographer based in Pembrokeshire in West Wales.

    Perhaps best known for his beach studies on Poppit Sands, he also enjoys experimenting with light and atmosphere on analogue film away from the landscape genre - including directly onto photographic paper in the darkroom through his continuing series of Luminograms.

    Mike's work is popular amongst collectors and he has exhibited both here in Wales and Internationally.
