Dr. Anthony Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment more than 100 times during a Senate committee hearing, and Republicans immediately treated his silence as evidence of guilt.
But there is one problem: Donald Trump invoked that same constitutional right more than 400 times during a 2022 deposition.
The Fifth Amendment is not a confession. It protects Fauci, Trump, and every American from government coercion. Congress should investigate, subpoena records, question witnesses, and follow the evidence. What it should not do is call the Fifth Amendment suspicious only when the other side uses it.
This is not about defending Fauci. It is about exposing a political double standard and defending a constitutional right that belongs to everyone.

Trust in mainstream media has fallen to a record low, while independent voices are gaining more influence than ever.
But independent media and fake news are not the same thing.
Credible independent media challenges power with evidence, transparency, sourcing, and accountability. Fake news uses outrage, emotion, and deception to tell audiences exactly what they want to hear.
In this episode of Fiercely Independent, Chris examines the credibility crisis facing mainstream outlets, the controversy surrounding changes at 60 Minutes, and the standard every independent media organization should be held to.
One challenges power. The other manufactures a narrative.

President Trump wants Senate Republicans to eliminate the filibuster so they can pass the SAVE Act. But Senate Majority Leader John Thune understands the danger: once Republicans destroy the 60-vote threshold, the next Democratic majority could use that same power against them.
Gun restrictions. Expanding the Supreme Court. Abolishing ICE. Sweeping legislation passed with a simple majority.
This is not just about one bill. It is about whether Republicans should surrender one of their strongest protections against the next Democratic-controlled Senate.
Trump is thinking about the next vote. Thune is thinking about the next majority. And right now, Thune may be the only adult in the room.

The administration began Operation Epic Fury with four sweeping objectives: eliminate Iran’s nuclear threat, destroy its ballistic missile arsenal, degrade its proxy networks, and cripple its military forces.
Now, the stated goal appears to be negotiations and resolving control of the Strait of Hormuz.
Is that a legitimate change in strategy, or is the White House moving the goalposts to declare victory?
In this week’s Spot the Spin, Chris explains the three questions you should ask whenever a politician claims success:

What happens when politicians cannot win over voters? They change which voters count.
Tennessee lawmakers moved to allow mid-decade redistricting as Republicans faced concerns about losing political power. When the new map was challenged, the state openly argued that its motivation was political, not racial.
That distinction exposed a disturbing legal loophole: when race and political affiliation overlap, lawmakers can claim they are targeting Democrats rather than Black voters.
The lawsuit is not over, and the court’s ruling was only preliminary. But the larger problem is already clear. Gerrymandering allows politicians to choose their voters, weakens competitive elections, rewards ideological extremes, and makes elected officials less accountable to the public.
Republican gerrymandering is not justified because Democrats have done it. Democratic gerrymandering is not justified because Republicans do it.
When politicians cannot win with better policies, they should change their policies, not the map.

The United States may be moving toward a two-front conflict involving Iran in the Persian Gulf and the Houthis in the Red Sea, yet almost nobody is asking the most important question: What is the actual endgame?
Two strategic waterways. Two hostile forces. More strikes, deployments, and opportunities for escalation.
History shows that wars fought on multiple fronts divide resources, complicate intelligence, and make every response more unpredictable. A strike against Iran could trigger additional Houthi attacks. A strike against the Houthis could provoke Iran to escalate near the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Congress continues to avoid its constitutional responsibility.
How many military strikes, deployments, and casualties must occur before elected officials admit that this has become a war? What is the objective? What does victory look like? And who authorized an open-ended commitment to defend both waterways?
Because when nobody can describe the finish line, it is not a mission.

Congressional leaders are trying to pass controversial election restrictions without giving them an honest, standalone vote.
Provisions from Trump’s SAVE America Act are being attached to major legislation involving national defense, government funding, and a congressional stock-trading ban. That puts lawmakers in a political trap: oppose the election provisions, and they can be accused of opposing the military, shutting down the government, or protecting corrupt insiders.
This is not transparent lawmaking. It is political extortion designed to blur accountability and prevent voters from knowing exactly what their representatives supported.
If these election restrictions are strong enough to become law, they should be strong enough to survive a public debate and a clean vote.

Mitch McConnell has been out of public view for more than five weeks following his hospitalization. His office released a written statement and photograph, but there have been no live appearances or direct public communications from the senator himself.
That raises a much larger constitutional question: What happens when a sitting U.S. senator is alive but potentially unable to perform the job?
The answer is disturbing. A prolonged incapacity does not automatically create a vacancy, and the Senate has no established process for declaring the seat of a living but incapacitated senator vacant.
Should Congress require independent health certifications after an extended absence? Should there be age limits? Or are voters simply left without functioning representation?

When a political claim cannot survive scrutiny, watch what happens next.
After suggesting corruption in California’s election process, Trump offered no evidence of fraudulent ballots, altered votes, or misconduct. Instead, he shifted the attack to NBC, ABC, and the media.
That is a classic red herring: replace the unanswered question with a new villain, a new outrage, and a more emotional distraction.
In this week’s Spot the Spin, Chris breaks down how the tactic works and how to recognize it before it pulls your attention away from the original claim.
Stay fierce. Stay independent.
The SAVE Act is being promoted as election integrity legislation, but does it solve a real problem or create a much larger one?
Millions of American citizens may not have immediate access to the documents required under the proposed law. Kansas already tested a similar system, and the results were alarming: tens of thousands of voter registrations were blocked while the number of identified noncitizens was microscopic.
Election integrity should stop unlawful voting without preventing eligible Americans from exercising their constitutional rights.
The SAVE Act fails that test.
