If you're listening to this the day it airs, tomorrow is Halloween and election day is next week. Some pretty scary days ahead... LOL

Voting is a great way to take action in support of your statements, opinions, and values. If you haven't yet, please vote!

As you cast your ballot and think about the results of our collective action, I invite you to also think about how you vote with your money every single day.
From where you spend to how you save and invest to who you owe money to, your dollars are supporting or harming people every single day.
Wouldn't it be a good idea to make sure your dollars are aligned with your values?

Isn't it a powerful human responsibility to put your money where your mouth is and take action in support of your values?

October 29, 2020 How to Save Money
We all know we SHOULD save but it's easier said than done. Why save when today has enough worries of its own? Can't we just let tomorrow worry about itself?

On the flip side, if we never save, we'll never break the paycheck to paycheck cycle and we might even go into debt when an emergency arrives. We'll also never have the cash to do some really awesome things like major vacations or putting a down payment on a home.

I'm a big believer in saving money to help increase our happiness level - a nice security blanket of savings has very much increased my happiness level.
And like I shared in the last episode, the wealthy who remain happy create a security blanket rather than give themselves everything they want.

So, if you want some extra motivation and some great how to's for increasing your saving, that's exactly what I have for you today.

October 28, 2020 Defeating the Mo' Money Mo' Problems Trap
Notorious B.I.G. said it in the late 90s.

In 2012 Richard Watts published a book titled, "Fables of Fortune: What Rich People Have That You Don't Want." He actually makes a really good point that us middle income Americans probably have things the rich would love to have but don't. While we're dreaming away about something we'll likely never have, they are dreaming about what we've already got.

In an NPR interview I found, Richard shares that the wealthy people who have not created more problems for themselves have 1 thing in common.
I'll share that with you today and how you can forego more problems as your income and wealth increase.

Does money = happiness? Do those who are happy make more money? Does making more money make you more happy?

Maybe you think a lack of money can lead to a lack of happiness. Consider the subsistence farmer who grows all her own food and has plenty to share but doesn't make money. Do you think she can't be happy?

Maybe you think a depressed person can't make a lot of money. Consider how many in Hollywood appear to be happy but inside they are far from it... and yet they make millions.

Money and happiness and often misunderstood.

October 22, 2020 Profit First Because the Children Are Watching
A 2015 study in Sweden found that children with entrepreneurial parents were very likely to become entrepreneurs themselves. It was actually even more likely if the child was adopted by an entrepreneur. AND it stuck to gender lines. If the mom was an entrepreneur, her daughter was more likely to be an entrepreneur.
Our kids look to us as role models. I think we know this and didn't need a study to tell us.

But what if you don't have kids? What if you feel like you're not being a good role model to kids, family, friends, the next generation as a whole?

Today, I want to share with you why I believe Profit First gives you an easy way to inspire future entrepreneurs or at least show those you love that you care about them and want to be with them.

October 21, 2020 Profit First Because the Goal is Sustainability NOT Burnout
Burnout and depression for entrepreneurs is real.
One survey found that about 1 out of 3 entrepreneurs experience the effects of depression and half of those (1 out 6 in total) experience full on burnout. If you're keeping track that's about 17% of entrepreneurs who will burnout. And that study was from May 2019... long before the pandemic.

I've had my own experience here and will tell you that story but first I want you to know this:

If you are experiencing depression or burnout, it's not your fault. There are so many factors at play - air pollution, social distancing, general uncertainty. I'm going to share some ideas that are within your control but please keep in mind, this is a complex area and you deserve professional help if you believe it would be beneficial.
You can get through it and create a better life for yourself.

October 20, 2020 Profit First Because Anything Less is Selfish
Here's a controversial idea: We all do everything we do because we are selfish. Even giving to charity is because we are selfish. We give in order to feel good and relieve a sense of guilt if we didn't give.

We have children because we selfishly want that unconditional love and to pass on ourselves to the future.

We get pets for that unconditional love as well.

Everyone is selfish. It's human nature.

But some are more selfish than others. They take more and more at the expense of others.

Today we ask the question, "Is taking a profit from your business too selfish?"
