Deserve is such a loaded term.

"She got what she deserved" has such negative connotations.

On the flip side, it reeks of entitlement, "I'm going to buy this [insert random item here] because I deserve it."

Then there's the unfair side, "People don't always get what they deserve."

Today, let's give new meaning to deserve.
I found a Haitian proverb, "Deserve, do not ask."

As entrepreneurs and business owners, we have a unique opportunity to create what we feel we deserve.
But first we have to know what it is we deserve... we have to know our worth.

October 15, 2020 How to Start a Business: Step 4... When the Going Gets Tough
You might have heard someone say about starting and running a business, "If it were easy, every one would be doing it."
I think most of us know it's not going to be easy but I wonder just how many of us realize how hard it's going to be.
I know I didn't at the beginning.
And over time, I know many a business owner who has said, "If I knew it was going to be this hard, I probably never would've done it."
And yet, sunk cost fallacy kicks in and they have too many irons in the fire to walk away so they just stick with it hoping something will change.

I was once at that point where all I could do is put 1 foot in front of the other and hope eventually a miracle would happen to make my business easier. Literally, I woke up each morning and thought, "Okay, all I can do today is put 1 foot in front of the other."

Turns out the minor miracle did happen and it wasn't a big customer or a viral video. It was something unexpected, as your might expect from a miracle.

October 14, 2020 How to Start a Business: Step 3... The Lonely Factor
Starting a business is often touted as a lonely road. Only you really have the passion and drive for your business. Only you "get it." You are your biggest cheerleader.

All that is true to some extent but I don't think it has to be as lonely as some say.
What if starting a business was more like an old-fashioned barn-raising where the owner gets all the materials and has the plan but everyone in the community pitches in a little and the barn goes up in way less time?

This way of starting a business is exactly what I did and it made it a lot easier and faster to get started.

Whether for a human or another mammal, the physical birthing process of a new life is one of nature's most beautiful processes but it's also one of the most dangerous.

What if child birth is the perfect analogy for transforming our stories with money?
And you don't have to have given birth to understand the power of the analogy.
But you do have to approach the transformation of your story with money with wisdom so that it won't be dangerous.

We live in a time when data is big. There are so many numbers we can look at - gross sales, average customer spend, number of sales, frequency of purchase, margin, net income, operating income, conversions, followers, likes, and the list goes on.

One of the most helpful things to learn as a business owner is what data is important and what can be ignored. It's going to be different depending on your type of business...
but I've come across 1 word that summarizes the data I believe it most important for every single business.
This word lead me from 1 industry to an entirely different one.
If you're not careful, it might mess with you as well.

October 06, 2020 Throw the "Rules of Money" Out the Window?
If you've been tracking with our episodes so far, you know I just completed 5 days on the "Laws of Money" and then a day about the Golden Rule. Today's title, "Throw the 'Rules of Money' Out the Window" might have caught you off guard.

First of all, I'd say go back and re-listen to episodes 15 thru 20. What you might notice is that the "Laws of money" aren't strict rules but more principles to be tailored.
Laws are written but then they have to be interpreted before they are implemented. Even the Golden Rule looks different depending on your time and place.

I've also put forward the idea that we're in the midst of a great transformation - with money and with so many things. Not all of the old rules apply anymore.

Today, I want to give you the alternative to "rules" and how you can develop a money system that can adapt as your life changes and as society transforms.
