It’s Wednesday time to talk about your health. Following yesterday’s economic update there are questions about what is not there. There was nothing about an expansion of the dental care program, something that would be critical for many Zoomers and also not a word about Pharmacare, even though the agreement with the NDP states explicitly that that file must be Acted on by the end of this year. Also, Zoomer women will remember the very uncomfortable routine of regular Pap smears. Canada is moving away from them and there is apparently a safe and effective home test to look for HPV.

ISRAEL'S HOSTAGE AGREEMENT WITH HAMAS: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The truce and hostage release between Israel and Hamas is set to take place tomorrow. Families still do not know exactly who will be released but the first group of about 50 will be mostly children and women.

Are we surprised? Meanwhile, The Ontario Liberal leader will be voted in next weekend with the results made official on December 2nd. Bonnie Crombie is the front-runner but two of her rivals, Yasir Naqvi and Nate Erskine Smith who are both currently MPs, have a strategy to try to beat her.

STUDENTS AT MCGILL SUPPORT PRO-PALESTINE POLICY

In the news: McGill's student union is supporting a pro-Palestine policy which both the university and Jewish community finds discriminatory. The university is threatening to sever ties with the union over it. And, the Durham College student who praised Hamas in a broadcasted statement is just one of many examples on social media whereby people are supporting Hamas here at home. So, how is social media fueling the problem.

A landscape architect has left his company which has a contract with the Ford government for the Ontario Place redevelopment project. He has decided to step away because he says the redevelopment poses a threat to the important wildlife habitat by leading to the clearing of hundreds of trees in the area. Meanwhile, there is also controversy over the 95 year lease that Austrian developer Therme signed for the $350-million spa it plans to build there. And, currently, the provincial auditor general is investigating the government's Ontario Place plans. So, where do we go from here?

Ontario's Patient Ombudsman Craig Thompson's office has received a 33 per cent jump in complaints and he highlighted a concerning trend about challenges accessing primary care in the province. Meanwhile, the provincial government is getting stricter on masking rules in long-term care homes amid the current respiratory virus season and due to the threat of COVID-19. There have been over 100 deaths of long-term care residents from COVID-19 since late August. Our panel has the latest.

Today marks World COPD Day and Henry is here to raise awareness about the horrible impact of this disease. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a progressive lung condition that leads to airway obstruction and breathlessness. It affects as many as 380 million people around the world is the third leading cause of death globally. Here in Canada, according to Statistics Canada, over 830,000 Canadians live with COPD. One of the major ways of developing COPD is through smoking but there are plenty of other factors that can play a role as well. Henry sheds light on the illness and we hear from you about how it has affected you or your loved ones.

DAILY BREAD RELEASES LATEST "WHO'S HUNGRY REPORT"

Daily Bread's new "Who's Hungry Report" is now out and the findings are concerning: in the past year, there were 2.53 million client visits across 150 food banks in Toronto, which is a 51 per cent increase compared to 2002. And, 1 in 10 Torontonians are now relying on food banks. Neil describes the extent of food insecurity in the City right now and factors that are contributing to the problem.

TORONTO POLICE: HATE RELATED INCIDENTS HAVE GONE UP IN TORONTO

Toronto Police have indicated that there has been a spike in hate related crimes in Toronto--mostly against the Jewish community. It's a development that has prompted Chief Myron Demkiw to beef up the Police Service's hate crimes unit. Deputy Chief Lauren Pogue weighs in on what they've been seeing so far and the steps TPS is taking to address the threat.

Five Premiers from Saskatchewan, Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia are calling for a meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and asking Ottawa to extend the carbon price exemption to all types of home heating and not just home heating oil. Meanwhile, an Alberta CPP exit panel has been launched to hear directly from Albertans about whether they should part ways with the Canada Pension Plan. Earlier in the year, an Alberta government funded study found that the province could save as much as $5 billion if it pulled out of the CPP and entered a different scheme. And, Toronto is seeing a rise in hate related crimes: In recent weeks amid the Israel-Hamas war. Does Toronto have a plan to address this issue effectively?

AN UPDATE ON THE ISRAEL-HAMAS WAR

Marissa Lennox is now joined by Lidar Grave-Lazi, ILTV’s News Host and Editor-in-Chief based in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Lidar gives us the latest update on the war between Israel and Hamas. Israel has been in contact with staff at Al-Shifa hospital staff in Gaza to arrange for the safe evacuation of patients and staff. The IDF said that it provided as much as 300 jerry cans of fuel to the hospital for medical operation purposes but that Hamas has prevented the hospital from accepting the fuel. Meanwhile, Israel explains that there is major Hamas terrorist infrastructure underneath the hospital. And, tensions continue to escalate on Israel's Northern front with Lebanon where Iran-backed Hezbollah has been firing anti-tank missiles on communities in Israel. And, the Israeli embassy in Washington is arranging for a screening of the footage of the horrific massacre of Israeli civilians by Hamas on Oct. 7 to members of U.S. congress.

DISGRACED FASHION MOGUL PETER NYGARD FOUND GUILTY

Over the weekend, disgraced Canadian fashion mogul Peter Nygard was found guilty on 4 counts of sexual assault at his Toronto court trial. A sentencing hearing is set for November 21st. His son, Kai Nygard, was at the verdict and said this of his father:  “It hurts me to see all of these things. I knew a different man. I got a different version of him and for me, that bond was real, those moments were real...Something evil in there...There’s something perverse.” Ari reacts to the latest.

Meanwhile, this past Wednesday, City Council voted 24-1 for Mayor Olivia Chow's ambitious affordable housing plan that would involve building 65,000 affordable homes and would require a substantial amount of funding from both the provincial and federal government (we're talking  $36-billion).
