This week marks the one year anniversary of the Ontario election that swept Doug Ford to power and absolutely gutted the then ruling Liberals.

They have 7 seats in the Legislature not enough for official party status and with 2 MPP’s resigning that number could go down to 5 depending on the results of those bi-elections.

But insiders believe this is time for to renew the party and it will be a huge task.

There is a lot of criticism of the Ford government from the left, and from people who would be hurt by some of the proposed and actual cutbacks. But there is also criticism from the right - from those who believe they are not chopping enough. This morning the Fraser Inst. released a report comparing Ford’s deficit cutting plan to the McGuinty Liberals. It says the new Ontario government’s plan to balance the budget—relying largely on increased revenue, not spending reductions—resembles similar unsuccessful plans by past Ontario governments. Ben Eisen, Senior Fellow at the Fraser Institute, is the author of the report and join Libby to discuss.

A final report from the national inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls has been presented to the federal government at a ceremony in Gatineau, Quebec today.

It was three years in the making and cost more than $90 million.

The inquiry into Murdered AND Missing Indigenous Women interviewed more 2300 people and came to the conclusion that the level of violence against these women amounts to a "Canadian genocide".

The commissioners are recommending sweeping reforms to the justice system including tougher penalties for partner abuse.

How big of a step is this towards the reconciliation that our government has been promising?
