Fight Disciples Podcast

Here we go.  It's the one you've all been waiting for!

Can Anthony Joshua regain his Heavyweight crown(s)?  He was comprehensively beaten in the first match up with Andy Ruiz in New York, can he put things right in Saudi Arabia?

We talk extensively about how we think this all might play out as well as looking ahead to Chris Eubank Jr fighting for an interim world title in New York this weekend.

Also on the agenda, Monte Carlo, Birmingham and Carl Frampton.

Ahead of his return to the ring in Birmingham this weekend, WBO European super-lightweight champion Sam Maxwell speaks honestly about almost losing his unbeaten record; how he’s only now finally behaving like a true professional; how riding Rolls Royce’s to the gym in Dubai how given him fresh focus; and why 2020 is the year he kicks the doors off and starts calling out anybody ranked above him in pursuit of a world title shot.

And still… Callum Smith held on to WBA world title and world #1 status by the skin of his teeth on Saturday, and joins the lads for an honest look back on 12 rounds he most certainly didn’t have all his own way. Mundo admits how he struggled with motivation for the fight, how he felt dealing with cuts for the first time in his career, and why he went toe to toe with Ryder in the second half of the fight. He also has his say on the judges, admits Anfield is likely off the agenda, but is determined to keep moving forward and land the big fight he believes he deserves.

A slightly shorter episode this week due to the lack of action from the UFC but that doesn't stop us getting excited about the upcoming show in London.

The most destructive puncher of our time was at it again on Saturday night.  He only needed one shot to get the job done.

As well as waxing lyrical about Deontay Wilder, we go through the atrocious scoring in Liverpool of the Smith vs Ryder fight.

Anybody can get it, anytime, anywhere, unless your name is Yoel Romero!

Darren Till has completely owned social media this week.

Also, when Ben Askren rode into the UFC we didn't like him but as he rides out, we most certainly do.

Ben Askren was himself from start to finish and you've got to admire that.  Even his attitude of accepting his level in the sport is refreshing and we wish him all the success in the world in his retirement.

Our home city of Liverpool plays home to an interesting night of fights, as the number one super middleweight in the world defends his crown.  Callum Smith needs a statement against John Ryder if he wishes to fulfil his dream of Anfield and/or Canelo.

Following them, Deontay Wilder hopes to make quick work of Luis Ortiz to remind everybody who the number one heavyweight really.

Ohara Davis hopes to come through the golden contract tournament on Friday, but there's a few other hungry super lightweights with the same ambition.

An Action packed week, so lots to talk about!

Just 18 months after his professional boxing debut, ‘The Pilgrim’ Jack McGann is now ranked in the top 20 in the British rankings, not bad for an MMA fighter with just 5 pro starts in the ring. The 26-year-old returns to the studio to discuss how his mind and body has adjusted to the ring, how he still yearns for MMA success, and how drawing in his second fight changed his attitude to the fight business.
