Why hasn’t The Sound of Music been remade? That question makes us ponder the rules that determine which Hollywood properties can be recycled indefinitely and which apparently must remain untouched. Movie scenes and celebrity anecdotes keep complicating the distinction between cultural treasure and something people simply like for no good reason.
Someone made proposal that Dolly Parton needs to be a saint, a proposal that's problematic on it's own terms but doubly probIematic when the proposition comes from an atheist. If canonization worked by popular vote, celebrities would arrive with ready-made constituencies, because fame has a way of turning reputation into evidence of virtue. Popular celebrities are assigned virtues by their fans.
The focus widens to another cultural achievement: convincing people to buy things that are readily available for free. Water, dirt, coffee, and other everyday products become examples of what happens when marketing convinces us to pay a premium price for bargain level items.
By the time the Hollywood Walk of Fame enters the discussion, movies, sainthood, products, and celebrity status are all running on surprisingly similar rules. A classic film can become too revered to remake, Dolly Parton can accumulate saintly credentials through public affection, and water or dirt can acquire value through presentation—while Hollywood puts famous names into the sidewalk and lets everybody walk on them.
On this week’s Prison Pulpit we start out by looking at some helpful thoughts from James White’s 12 year old sermon on Hebrews 13:3, the timeless passage on which this podcast is based. Then after talking a bit about the uniquely difficult situation in India, we briefly open up the latest edition of the missionary classic, Hudson Taylor’s Spiritual Secret, and try to learn and apply a lesson from Taylor’s experiences.

Why the Prison Pulpit?
The goal is to remind people to pray for persecuted believers as Hebrews 13:3 teaches.
The ESV reads: “Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them”
James White comments on Hebrews 13:3 (in a sermon preached on June 22, 2014 in Arizona):
Remember those who are in prison: “The ones bound, the ones who are in chains”
As though in prison with them: “As if you yourself were chained together with them”
“There are brothers, there are sisters, who some day in the glory of heaven, you will be closer to than anyone on this earth right now, who are suffering in the name of Christ. And in our day we probably have more information and more knowledge of this than any preceding generation has ever had.”

In this episode of the Podcast for Cultural Reformation, Dr. Joe Boot is joined by Dr. Stephen Lloyd and Paul Garner of Biblical Creation Trust to discuss the importance of biblical creation for understanding the Christian faith and the gospel. They explore the relationship between creation and redemption, the historical Adam, the origin and meaning of death, and the challenges posed by theistic evolution. They also consider how abandoning a biblical doctrine of creation can affect the church’s understanding of Scripture and the coherence of the biblical story.
The conversation then turns to the wider implications of creation for Christian engagement with contemporary culture, including questions of human identity, gender, sexuality, artificial intelligence, and the nature of scientific knowledge. Joe, Stephen, and Paul discuss the need for Christians to recover a confident and intellectually rigorous engagement with science, developing positive models of creation that take both biblical revelation and the evidence of the natural world seriously. At the heart of the discussion is the conviction that creation is not merely the backdrop to redemption, but a foundational part of the Christian worldview and the gospel itself.

Is Christian nationalism a dangerous eschatological error—or does the debate reveal a much deeper disagreement about Christ’s rule over nations?
In this episode of The Magistrate, Josh Howard is joined by guest host Cory Wing to respond to Phil Johnson’s recent comments on Christian nationalism and postmillennialism.
They examine whether nations can become Christian, whether the church is called to transform culture, the proper distinction between church and state, and whether civil government can ever truly be morally neutral.
Along the way, Josh and Cory interact with questions surrounding John MacArthur, Grace Community Church, Covid-era government overreach, Psalm 2, Psalm 82, Isaiah 11, the Great Commission, and John 18.
Can Christian political theology acknowledge Christ’s authority over rulers and nations without confusing the distinct roles of church and state?
The Masculinity Pyramid and How Andrew Tate Is Wrong | Waterbreak Ep. [EPISODE #]
Seth Troutt — pastor, author of Authentic Masculinity: Leaving Behind the Counterfeits for God's Design, and a guy who's spent years untangling what biblical manhood actually looks like — joins Gabe and Annie this week. They dig into why the fitness industry's version of "manhood" is basically steroids, porn, and Instagram in a trench coat, and what it actually looks like to steward your body under the Lordship of Christ instead of chasing a counterfeit.
💦 IN THIS EPISODE:
The two counterfeits of masculinity — toxic strength vs. "masculinity doesn't really exist" — and how both show up in how guys train and see their own bodies
Where the modern male body ideal actually comes from (hint: it's not health) and how "discipline equals freedom" gets hijacked by gym-bro culture
The four virtues — humility, discipline, responsibility, and chivalry — and how they reframe physical strength as something aimed at your family, not your mirror

America’s elections are under siege; a shocking new China interference bombshell is raising fresh questions about foreign influence, and the battle over who controls what Americans can say online is escalating. Meanwhile, war with Iran threatens to send shockwaves through global energy markets as President Trump unveils what he calls the biggest oil deal in history with Venezuela.
The surveillance state is also expanding, with Flock cameras spreading across America, while California takes aim at citizen journalism through the "Stop Nick Shirley Act." And in a stunning victory for the Second Amendment, Americans can now legally acquire suppressors without the federal registration requirements that have been in place since 1934.
Plus, powerful guests join The Sentinel Report to expose the battles shaping America’s future. Andrew Winnett of Retirement Renegade reveals the threats facing your retirement savings and articulates five points explaining how the economy may soon crash. Next, Dr. Eugene Lipov discusses smartphone brain rot and doom scrolling and how to overcome it. Finally, Chaplain Lieutenant Colonel Ray Moore sounds the alarm over the fight for Christian education and previews the upcoming CEI Conference.
Elections, censorship, China, war, surveillance, gun rights, education, and your financial future—it’s all coming up now on The Sentinel Report.
