Are modern earthquakes, wars, and global chaos signs that Jesus is about to return?

In this episode of Richard Reacts, Richard Henry responds to popular end-times claims surrounding Matthew 24 and the tendency to interpret every earthquake, war, or disaster as evidence that the end is near.

Richard examines Jesus’ words about wars, rumors of wars, famines, earthquakes, persecution, and the “end of the age” in their original context. Were these warnings primarily about events thousands of years in the future—or about the judgment coming upon Jerusalem and the destruction of the temple in A.D. 70?

Instead of reading today’s headlines back into biblical prophecy, Richard challenges Christians to read Matthew 24 in context, abandon sensational “newspaper exegesis,” and recover a more confident view of Christ’s kingdom and its advance throughout history.

Today's episode is David's interview with Jason Farley (regular guest of Knox Unplugged) on legislation and its influence or effect in forming or transforming a culture. The discussion raises a serious question: Is the way some Christian leaders think about and speak publicly into the the sphere of politics and legislation Christian or something else? Don't miss this one. (The second part of the interview will be published next Friday)

We go rummaging through the cultural attic, starting with TV theme songs from the ’80s and ’90s—the kind that apparently occupied permanent brain space while more practical information was evicted. That leads us to movies, music, horror franchises, familiar actors, and the peculiar nostalgia that makes an old theme song instantly recognizable decades later.

Then somebody famous dies, and the internet demonstrates that grief is also a competitive event. We get into the rush to update Wikipedia, the speed of celebrity death reporting, and the emotional connection people have to entertainers they knew only through screens and speakers. 

From there, we turn to pets in stores and other public spaces, where the old rules of pet etiquette seem to be undergoing negotiations. We also take on modern art and the argument over whether it reflects cultural decay, confuses the purpose of art, or simply gives everybody something else to argue about.

Finally, we arrive at dental visits and appointment scheduling, because everyday life remains a dependable source of comedy without requiring a screenplay.

The goal is to remind people to pray for persecuted believers as Hebrews 13:3 teaches: “Remember those who are in prison, as bound with them.” We’ve looked at Wang Yi and Early Rain Church’s writings in the aftermath of their arrest and attack in 2018, but I’ve also regularly turned to other persecuted ministers who have gone before, such as Richard Wurmbrand, to give us a voice literally from prison.
