Why was God so angry with Tyre, and how does Tyre’s history prove the Bible is true?

In this episode of Shadows to Substance, Pastor George Sayour explores the biblical and historical significance of the Mediterranean city of Tyre.

Though Tyre was once an ally of Israel through David, Solomon, and King Hiram, Scripture repeatedly pronounces judgment against it in Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Joel, Amos, and Zechariah.

George shows how prophecies about Tyre were fulfilled through Nebuchadnezzar, Alexander the Great, and later historical judgments, while also pointing to the deeper issue beneath Tyre’s downfall: pride, wealth, self-sufficiency, and rejection of God. Yet even in judgment, Scripture holds out hope that Gentile nations like Tyre can be humbled, restored, and brought under the lordship of Christ.

This is a very eduational episode in which we share the many things we learned recently.

Why the Prison Pulpit? 

The goal is to remind people to pray for persecuted believers as Hebrews 13:3 teaches: “Remember those who are in prison, as bound with them.” We’ve looked at Wang Yi and Early Rain Church’s writings in the aftermath of their arrest and attack in 2018, but I’ve also regularly turned to other persecuted ministers who have gone before, such as Richard Wurmbrand, to give us a voice literally from prison.
