Welcome back to the show!
When we’re young, let’s say in our early 20s, we barely ever think about age, or how we want to be when we enter old age.
But what is old age anyway?
In fact what is being young?
Today’s guest is 71 years. She is a runner who has run marathons across the world including the likes of Antarctica marathon, The Great Wall of china marathon, the Sacramento marathon, Everest base camp marathon, Kilimanjaro Marathon any many more such exotic races.
When she used to run competitively, she used to regularly grab podiums at events of repute such as the Tata Mumbai Marathon which earlier used to be SCMM. In fact she had a hat-trick of winning gold medals at the Mumbai marathon in 50+ and 60+ age categories and she has even represented India in the masters category. So she’s an International sportsperson.
A quick side note, she has also been a coach and she even coached an elite athlete named Rigzin Angmo who went on to win Delhi Rath marathon, clocking her career best of 2hours 45 minutes and 8 seconds.
Mala is also a Trekker, mountaineer, Skier, a Yoga practitioner and coach, and she even loves Karate.
She has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Sitidhar, Stok Kangri, Siachin Glacier and many more.
And as if all this wasn’t challenging enough, in 2015, she set off to climb the mighty Mount Everest. At the ripe age of 62, she managed training, funding, and summoned the will to get to the top of the world. She was at the basecamp, and the one of the most devastating earthquakes ever hit Nepal and the entire expedition had to be called off. Nepal’s devastation was visible in many viral videos, and later in Netflix documentaries, but what about shattered dreams?
Sapne jab tootte hain toh aawaz hoti hai kya?
Jo devastation dil-o-dimag mein hoti hai, wo kitni badi hai, wo toh na kisiko nazar aati hai, our na dikhayi ja sakti hai.
But, Mala Honnatti doesn’t let anything that happens to her, define her. She keeps marching forward with her calling which is adventures and outdoors. And today, she’s the founder of Maho Adventures which organises Treks to some of the most beautiful places in the country, making outdoors and adventures more accessible to all.
It’s not her achievements, it’s the life she has lived that ’s incredibly inspiring. All that you’ve heard so far will blow your mind when you hear about the background she comes from, the hurdles she has had to overcome.
Nothing about her life is conventional, and yet, she sounds like it’s no big deal.
Without further ado, let’s get to know this adventurous, daring and beautiful person. Here’s Mala Honnatti and me in the Find your Ultra Podcast. Indulge away.
