she thanked god for the way they’d met
the seat of a stone bench along the rocky coast
a perfect enmeshment of toes and sand drinking in the sea
warm rain on her hot summer skin
views from atop mountain peeks
a moose on the roadside with eyes of forgiveness for momentarily forgetting the magic that was abound
an orca whale jumping through the boundary of water and wind
her salty skin dripping with the cleansing power of ocean
her first sip of coffee in the morning
from herself, for no reason at all
other than the ability to curl the corners of her mouth in a way that brough joy
she thanked god for the way they’d met
in the love stories that didn’t last
in the friendships that blossomed over the years
in the safety of a motherly hug
in the nourishment of a hearty meal
her blue eyes staring back at her in the mirror of a still pool of glistening water
a morning skinny dip among the moon and the sun gently sharing the sky
in the way her pen and paper embodied the same space, creating art
she thanked god for the way they’d never stop meeting
and the remembrance of a smile that always came
no matter the depths of a broken heart
she thanked god for never letting her be alone
forever meeting her with one breath at a time
