The disciples arrived to celebrate something that had been celebrated as long as they had lived, and yet walking into the same door, Jesus arrived to celebrate something He would never celebrate again.
Mark 14:16 says, "The disciples left, went into the city and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover." But what was really involved in the preparation and how does this relate to today?
In a healthy husband and wife relationship you need physical love, you need emotional love, you need infatuation and you need those romantic moments every now and then. But without the greatest love, by themselves, these things pass away.
At the very heart of God's nature is Love. He does not have love, He does not GIVE Love, He is love. Love is not a reward system with God. It is not based on something we do or do not do. It is based on WHO HE IS. And it is one of those things that DOES NOT CHANGE WITH GOD.
When things don't go your way, do you ever feel like you must not be a good enough person to receive gifts from God? Do you ever feel like you have to work for blessings from God? Jesus came to earth to forgive us our sins so that we may have everlasting life. There is nothing we can do to earn that, because Jesus already paid the price. We just have to accept the gift.
Jesus said, "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God." So when his disciples asked who then could be saved, Jesus replied, "What is impossible with man is possible with God."
Paul and Silas had been stripped, beaten, thrown in prison and their feet placed in stocks. You would think that someone doing exactly what God asked them to would be spared from such hardships. But being a Christian doesn't mean that we will never suffer. It is in these difficult times that we must keep our faith and praise God, for we know our reward will be in Heaven.
