Protestors are engaged in running battles with the police in the Krugersdorp CBD west of Johannesburg. A vehicle workshop has been set on fire. Earlier police battled to keep the situation under control in Munsieville where crowds blockaded roads near the police station that was torched earlier today. Houses have also been torched. In Kagiso, several police vehicles were damaged. The protest was sparked by the abduction of a girl who was found at one of the drug dens allegedly owned by a foreign national. Western Cape Premier, Helen Zille is taking charge of the Western Cape Water Crisis. Zille says she has written to President Jacob Zuma this weekend asking that the province be declared a disaster area. Dam levels have dropped to 27-point-six percent in the Cape this week. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and its head Shaun Abrahams have filed an appeal with the Constitutional Court against a North Gauteng High Court ruling that the appointment of its head Shaun Abrahams was invalid. They argue against the finding by the Court that President Jacob Zuma appointed Abrahams because he was less likely to charge the president than his predecessor, Mxolisi Nxasana. Yesterday, President Jacob Zuma filed notice to appeal the Pretoria high court ruling that he's conflicted and as a result cannot appoint the National Director of Public Prosecutions.
