For this episode, we had the pleasure of interviewing Dave Radford from the band The Gray Havens. The band centers around husband and wife Dave and Licia Radford. Since their debut in 2013, their projects have been hailed as “an imaginative treatment of faith…[having] a visionary quality that’s both playful and enraptured.” Releasing their debut EP on Noisetrade in 2013, and their first full-length album, Fire and Stone, in 2015, the duo has gained a steady following of listeners nationwide. This coming week, for a limited time, you will be able to get all their music for free on NoiseTrade. Download here!
In the last segment we discuss Pastor Toby Sumpter’s book, Blood Bought World. If the Church is to rise up full of people who don’t give a damn about the fleeting pleasures of this life and who care only for the glory of Jesus and His Kingdom, we must once again grasp what made Jesus so eminently killable. If Jesus had been born in our day, the council that condemned Him would have included a couple of well-known evangelical pastors, a few outspoken pro-life leaders, a conservative-libertarian-leaning politician, and at least one Bible-thumping fundamentalist. Jesus was murdered by church people, for churchy reasons. This is a must-read!
In CrossPolitic news, we discuss Matt Lauer’s fall from grace, and what God is doing in our morally bankrupt culture.

Happy Thanksgiving! and sorry for dropping the podcast on Monday night. Don’t worry, it should be worth it.
Gender reassignment surgeries are on the rise in our country. In 2014, Medicare removed a decades-long ban on coverage for the surgery. This has led to increased access, mostly on the taxpayer dime–about 90% of the surgeries are funded by Medicare.
Both of our local hospitals, Gritman Medical Center and Pullman Regional Hospital, have elected to offer gender reassignment surgery. They are currently the only hospitals in the northwest to offer this surgery. Dr. Rod Story, a hospitalist at Pullman Regional, joins us in the studio to discuss how transgender patients struggle with a dysphoria similar to that of anorexia patients. After his colleagues voted to award Dr. Story Pullman Regional’s Physician Excellence Award, his conscience led him to step down from his position and leave Pullman Regional Hospital, effective at the end of December.
Below are some articles Dr. Story referred us to:

About CP:
The Apologia crew joins us in the studio to discuss the Idaho governors race, and the changes brewing since our live governor’s show back at the beginning of September. We also talk about Apologia’s upcoming church plant in Kauai. Please check out their website and if you have any Christian friends in the area, have them reach out to Apologia through the website.
We also had the pleasure of interviewing Brian Bailey, who was VP Mike Pence’s former State Budget Director. With Brian, we discussed the principles that guided him in his high-profile political position, and how Christians should be thinking about engaging as politicians.

About CP:
This episode is a must-listen. Elise Crapuchettes, homemaker, author, and Duke law grad, joins us to discuss her new book, Popes and Feminists. Before the Reformation, the Roman Catholic Church did not consider the calling of a wife and mother to be holy. The only spiritual calling for women was to be found in a convent. The Reformers confronted the bad theology that fed this idea (and other worse abuses, like priest-patronized brothels), and returned to the Bible to develop a theology of vocation that began to free women to be holy no matter their occupation. But today, modern feminist claims about vocation have more in common with the pre-Reformation popes than anything else. The only difference is that feminists have replaced the convent with the hallowed corporate workplace.

This week we’re joined by David Wheaton, nationally syndicated radio host and 1991 winner of the Grand Slam Cup, to discuss the spiritual crisis on university campuses. As many as fifty percent of Christian students say they’ve lost their faith by the time they graduate college, and yet Christians continue to think there is no crisis.
David’s book, University of Destruction, describes his own experiences at Stanford and outlines the three Pillars of Peril–sex, drugs/alcohol, and humanism–that students face in college, and discusses how students can raise their spiritual GPA as a strategy for gaining victory over these perils (follow this link for the study guide).
In CrossPolitic news, we cover NPR CEO Ken Stern’s journey to conservatism, the referral of children to UK sex change clinics at the rate of 50 kids per week, and sex education testing in a public school in Oklahoma.
