Asian cultures have a strong affinity with the sea, without it, ancient societies were cut off from trade and food supply. The advantages of sea travel often came with the heavy price of these people losing their lives to accidents, getting lost or having a ship go down in bad weather.  That is before the Sea Goddess MaZu came to be the Patron Saint of the Sea, saving these men from being doomed to a watery grave.
