The Bible says that there is joy in death and that we have to die to
experience life. These statements can be quite confusing to nonbelievers and new believers. It makes it even harder when they
don't see our joy. Are you letting busyness hide your joy?
What difference do our circumstances make? Because we have
this treasure, we spoke about in yesterday's episode, living inside
of us, our circumstances do not have the effect on our lives that
they otherwise would. Let me explain.
What is the treasure that Paul references in 2 Corinthians 4:7?
How can we experience this treasure and how do we share it with
others? And, what difference would sharing this make in
someone's life? Let's talk about this today and share in the
treasures God has given to us.

Many people think integrating faith in the workplace is difficult to do. But in this episode, Dave Peters shares how it’s simply a matter of changing our perspective. He shares how God views work and answers questions about the significance of it. Is your work meaningful and how does it relate to the kingdom?
If we want to be whole disciples of Christ, Dave shares the importance of bringing every aspect of our lives to Him - including our workplace. Dave learned a lot from interviewing six lay people in the workplace. Listen to this episode to hear how your work matters, regardless of what it is.
Outline of This EpisodeDave Peters is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary where he also participated in the Hendricks Center. This program focuses on leadership and the leader’s heart. It was in the program where Dave pursued the discovery of how the average American worker can integrate faith and the workplace. Is it possible to be “in ministry” without being in the pulpit? Dave shares about his capstone project which resulted in a paper entitled “Perceptions of Faith and Work in Lay Persons.” Listen to this episode to find out the results of this project and what God has to do with our workplace
What kind of work is meaningful to God?Through his research, Dave found some people believe that while they’re at work, they’re not doing the church’s work. What does God think about work? Some believed work was brought about by the curse in the Genesis account. Others thought the only important work revolved around the Great Commission. Although evangelism is a vital part of the church, Dave shared that it’s not the only definition of what God cares about concerning work. There’s so much wrong thinking revolved around this subject. Some think they’re not engaged in kingdom work unless they’re doing “sacred things,” such as evangelism and discipleship. Listen now to find out where our thinking has gone wrong. Find out how we can get realigned with the biblical definition of work.
How can you find time for ministry when you’re always at work?Dave talks about this dilemma: Every believer is called to ministry and wishes he could spend more time serving in the church, but finding time to do that is difficult. The problem with this line of thinking is the fact that you ARE the Church when you’re serving Christ in your workplace. Unfortunately, Sunday messages we hear often focus on discretionary time activity - the importance of serving in the nursery or youth group - things that take place when you’re not at work. Listen to this episode where Dave talks more about the importance of shifting our mindset about “God’s work.” Find out what ministry God’s placed in you right now.
What makes your work significant? In our lifetime, we hold a number of different jobs. But what defines which one is the most important? We may define the most significant job as the one where we made the most money or had a prominent position. But when God defines it, He doesn’t think about the context. No matter what position you’re in - whether you’re a warehouse worker or a CEO of a company - God sees your work as important. WHO you’re working for is what makes your work meaningful. Find out how you can be like an antibiotic in your workplace. You can actually bring new life to what is death.

Eric’s workplace mission was clearly defined when he participated in his first Marketplace Mission trip. This unique opportunity came from his boss, who asked him to join along with two other coworkers. Although he works as a consultant, he learned how his role serves as an opportunity to “be Jesus” in each workplace. Listen to this episode to hear how this unique mission trip has impacted him and those he works with.
Outline of This EpisodeAs a consultant, Eric finds himself in many different work experiences. When his boss asked him to join the Marketplace Mission Trip along with two other coworkers, he was interested to join. Even though he’s not an employee for a particular company he’s consulting for, he learned the value of being Jesus in each workplace.
Eric appreciated the daily emails he received after joining the mission trip. These emails encouraged and challenged him daily to be purposeful in reaching out to others. Listen to this episode to find out how these emails helped motivate Eric to think outside of himself and how to focus on others instead.
Learn the eternal difference a Dr. Pepper can makeEric shared the Dr. Pepper story in one of the evening calls with his group, not realizing the impact it would make. It’s a simple story of how the Lord showed him to put his needs and desires aside to show love to a coworker. Because of the daily email challenges, he often thought about this and what it means to have a workplace mission mindset. In this episode, listen to how Eric was able to actively participate in the mission trip by simply giving a Dr. Pepper away.
Find out the lasting impact of a workplace mission mindsetUsing the tools Eric gained from the mission trip combined with a church event, his walk with Jesus has gotten deeper. One of the things he learned was the act of listening. It may sound like an easy task, but it honestly was more difficult than he anticipated. He had to learn how to put aside his agenda - things like not thinking about how he wanted to respond or thinking about his to-do list. In society, we’re not programmed that way. We’re used to thinking about ourselves. Please listen to hear how Follower of One helped Eric step out of his world to make an eternal difference in the lives of those around him.
