We were joined by Claire Derry to talk about her father, Major Sam Derry, who wasn't just satisfied with managing to escape from a moving train, he would go on the run an entire escape organisation, alongside a Catholic priest, based out of the Vatican. Utterly unmissable!

L/Cpl. Richards was very good at getting out and staying out, but never quite made it home in four attempts. However, his fifth escape effort would see him fighting in the forests of Poland before he managed to get home.

Another escaper who was to join the Polish Resistance after escaping, but there was to be more than one similarity with the escape of Easterbrook...

'For You The War Is Over' is a podcast all about the history of Second World War Prisoner-of-War escapes.
First and foremost, these are true adventure stories; tales of human courage and…
In each episode we look at a new POW escape and the story behind how they were captured, what their lives were like in the POW camps, and how they escaped. We also look at the lengths they went to in order to prepare for their escapes, and the challenges they faced and overcame in pursuit of their freedom.
We therefore also try to look at who they were, what drove them, how their escape efforts reflected their personality, and what the individual’s character brought to their own unique escape ‘style’.
