LinkedIn isn’t your run-of-the-mill social network. Whereas on the Facebooks and Twitters of the world you’re more likely to come across cat GIFs and hate-filled political screeds, LinkedIn has always focused squarely on creating an atmosphere where professionals of all kinds can come together, share their experiences or embark on a new and exciting career. In other words, LinkedIn encourages quality leadership in a way that few other media outlets really allow.

You should be able to work those events into a compelling narrative that engages your audience, both rationally, and emotionally. Women, in the US at least, are currently riding the crest of a historically significant change. “Outsiders” are slowly replacing “insiders” in leadership, visible positions. To wit, Harriet Tubman, African-American former slave, abolitionist and Civil War Union spy, will replace former slave owner Andrew Jackson on the face of the $20 bill. Other women such as Eleanor Roosevelt and Susan B. Anthony will be featured on the obverse sides of other bills.

When you read or hear news stories about the imminent takeover of robots and algorithms that will eliminate jobs for human workers, many times the first examples given are blue-collar jobs like factory workers and taxi drivers.  And you may have mentally congratulated yourself because your “professional” job is safe from the threat of being outsourced to computers. But don’t feel so safe just yet.

For the vast majority of Americans, their nation’s economy is in a prolonged stagnation, far worse than that of Japan. When it comes to real income that is–income adjusted for inflation. 90 percent of Americans earns roughly the same real income today as they earned back in the early 1970s, according to a recent study released by The Levy Economic Institute (Figure 6). Japan’s economic stagnation reaches back to the early 1990s.
