Conversation between Guadalupe Nettel and Morten Ranum.

Her novel "El cuerpo en que naci" had just been translated into Danish and published by Forlaget Grif with the title "Kroppen jeg blev født i". Guadalupe Nettel attended Louisiana Literature to present her book, where Morten Ranum met her in a jetlagged version of herself.

The conversation took place Friday, August 24, 2018 in Louisiana Museum in Humlebæk north of Copenhagen. Afterwards a written version of the conversation was published in Globalnyt.

Season I, 2 - Episode 2

Welcome to our second episode. Last time we promised that on the fourth Tuesday we would always broadcast a repetition of the previous show, but this will not be case, because last week "inmyfootstep" and "thewhiteafrican" decided to visit the international literature festival LiteratureXchange in Aarhus. In Arhus we met Jeanette Ehlers and Olivia Wenzel. Wenzel has last year released her novel "1000 Serpentinen Angst", which have just been translated into Danish under the somewhat confusingly different title "Mit hjerte er en Automat" (My heart is an Automat); the English title will be the more loyal "1000 Coils of Fear".

In Aarhus we also met Leonora Carrington, and we ask ourselves what we can learn from Carrington, because she seems to be everywhere. She is even highlighted on top of the agenda when Biennale di Venezia describes the theme of next year's art exhibition.

Not very surprisingly, but expected by everyone, Aarhus turn out to be a depressing experience. First of all because Morten Ranum has a traumatic relationship to the countryside, especially towards provincial towns that pretend to be something they are not. Secondly because the discussion of race is just as liberating as it is depressing and difficult.

Vi præsenterer en ny person. Han kalder sig Morty Mort. Det var egentlig meningen af Morten Ranum skulle have været på et legatophold i Gudhjem for at skrive, men midt ude i Østersøen sank færgen og med den forsvandt Morten Ranum i havet – et element han altid har elsket meget højt. I Rønne havn dukker Morty Mort op og udgiver sig for at være Morten Ranum. Vi undrer os fortsat over, hvordan det kunne lade sig gøre for de minder på ingen måde om hinanden eller ligner hinanden. Derefter erobrede Morty Mort den legatbolig i bjergbyen Gudhjem, som var Morten Ranum tiltænkt i hele april måned. Ingen har siden set noget til Morty Mort. Han forsvandt lige så pludseligt som han opstod. Kun en række digte og optagelser af klaverspil vidner om hans eksistens. Vi har besluttet at udgive digtene, men låst klaver improvisationerne inde i en boks, skjult og forsikret. Han kan ikke spille klaver – det eneste punkt hvor Morty Mort ligner Morten Ranum. Heller ikke han kunne spille klaver.

The last of the three conversations held in January 2023 with art gallery managers and curators along the eastern coast in South Africa.. In this conversaton we are visiting GFI Art Gallery in Port Elizabeth, renamed Gqeberha. Rose, a woman also present in the gallery office interrupts now and then the conversation with Gallery Manager Anna Stewart to elaborate on aspects relevant for the conversation.

In January 2023 we travelled along the East Coast in South Africa to visit art galleries in East London, Durban (Ethekwini) and Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha). Here is a conversation with Reggie Letsatsi, Art Curator from Limani Art Gallery in East London.

Om kuratorens rolle

Samtale med udstillingsinspektør Iben Bach Elmstrøm fra Den Frie Udstillingsbygning om kuratering og kuratorens rolle. Hun har en baggrund såvel som billedkunstner, men har også gennem en årrække arbejdet som kurator i meget forskellige sammenhænge. Hun er udover sin kunstneriske baggrund også uddannet idenfor kuratering med en master i kuratering fra Goldsmith College, University of London i England.

Samtalen mellem Iben Bach Elmstrøm og Morten Ranum fandt sted tirsdag den 31.maj 2022 i arkivet i kælderen under Den Fri Udstillingsbygning i København.

We are returning to Miami. Here we are talking to one of the owners of the gallery space Dimension Variable located in Little Habana in Miami. His name is Leyden Rodriguez-Casanova. We will also meet the Miami based artist Edison Peñafíel, who was born in Ecuador.

In connection with these two conversations in Miami we will discuss what a conversation about art is and try to detect the good from the bad, the bad from the ugly and the ugly from the beautiful.
