Our expectations, both external and internal, have a huge influence on our experience of our reality.
With mega conferences being formed more and more by the minute, the question becomes are we expecting too much of student-athletes?
More importantly, where else do these expectations show up in our life?

How Do We Create Meaning Beyond The Uniform?
Nate Boyer shows us just that today.
For those not familiar with Nate’s story, he is an Army Green Beret, philanthropist, humanitarian, and former football plater for University of Texas. At 34, Nate became the oldest rookie in NFL history while playing with the Seattle Seahawks.
Nate’s unique experience of finding himself a part of both the professional athlete and veteran community, shapes a lot of the work he does now. Having seen how both communities can often struggle to create a meaningful life once their uniforms were laid down, Nate joined up with Jay Glazer to found Merging Vets & Players, or MVP for short.
MVP helps tackle the transition struggles through workouts and workshops that provide the space for both parties to tap back into who they’ve always been.
Today we discuss his movie, MVP which highlights a lot more of how the organization came to be. We dive into discovering new perspective on grit, managing the adversities we all face in our lives, and how we can start to create more meaning in our life.

There is a lot that we feel like we carry everywhere we go at any given moment. Today, we learn how to set that burden down. This is Episode 231 on The Practice of Grace and Letting Go with Dave “Champ” Moore. You’re Tuned into Forever Athlete Radio where together we go far. I’m your host Cory Camp and today I sit down with Dave, a good friend of mine out in LA who moved there to pursue his dream of acting. He’s worked steadily in commercials, TV, and other media projects since making that move after his football career ended. Dave is also a fellow writer with 2 published books out and a podcast host of the “Keepin’ it 1000” podcast. He organizes non-profit and charity events for Special Olympics and The National Breast Cancer Foundation in the spare time he does have. Dave and I dive deep today in exploring how we can all tap into a truly ever present inner peace, even in what can feel like life’s biggest setbacks. We explore the practice of giving our selves grace, a foreign concept to a lot of athletes out there.

Athletes have a deeper need for structure, routine, and time management. Today I want to explore something that has come back to bite me throughout the years, my ever complicated relationship with time and control:
-The catch 22 of wanting more time back since I have it available to me
-Being adverse to feeling constrained by our time, what are ways we can feel more in control of our day to day
-Scouting reports, boundaries, the role of the game plan while balancing staying flexible to what is
-It’s important to not be adverse to making adjustments as necessary

Today I’m joined by Mike Lee, CEO of Soul CBD & Former Professional Boxer. For the last decade, Mike has fought in front of millions in arenas like MGM Grand in Vegas to MSG in NYC. In the prime of his career he spent almost two years in and out of hospitals battling what he found out was an autoimmune disease that almost ended his career. Fed up with countless hospital visits and years on prescription medication, Mike immersed himself in the wellness world, learning everything he could about nutrition, mindset and most importantly, CBD. With the help of the latter, Mike defied every doctor’s prognosis, and went on to win eight more fights, becoming the #3 ranked fighter in the World and eventually fighting for a World Title in July 2019.
Today, Mike is the CEO and co-founder of Soul, a CBD wellness brand, with his sister Angie Lee. With his company, Mike continues to deliver on his mission by helping thousands of people find natural relief from pain, anxiety, and more.
